Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival is back. Today was the first day and will continue till Sunday (Aug 21, 2022). Welcome back and see lots of people and old friends there today in the first day.
https://lnkd.in/gXZtdhxH

Glad to moderate 2 forums on #MetaVerse in the festival. This is the third forum of the MetaVerse series of the HKPC #Innopreneur Meetup. Grateful to be the moderator for this series. Thanks to #HKPC Karen F.Elly Yip, their teammates for organizing it.

I had Andy Hsu from #MetaSze Lok Chan from #AWS, and Sam Hui from #CHKCI in my first forum. We talked about the MetaVerse ecosystem and opportunities for Hong Kong #SMEs.

Then, I had 3 innovators on MetaVerse for the 2nd panel. Gabriel K. #AirWorldRicky Ng #BetterArena and Dr. Amen Lee #BetterVerse. We talked about the transition from #Web2 to #Web3, social impact on MetaVerse, global expansion through MetaVerse.

Excellent innovations on MetaVerse from the elite startups. With the empowerment from Meta, AWS and other leaders, there will be lots of opportunities in hardware, software, applications for many industries, not just #Gaming#Crypto and #NFTs. Heartfelt thank to all the panel speakers and their insightful sharing.

Mckinsey estimated that the MetaVerse market will grow to 5 trillion USD by 2030. The future of MetaVerse is not shaped yet. Hong Kong companies, large or small, startups and even investors will have great opportunities in this decade.

Start fast, act fast, fail fast, learn fast and pivot fast. That is the new rule of thumb for success in the digital era.

Learned a lot today from the #MetaVerse practitioners in town in the 2nd forum of our “All About MetaVerse Series”. The main theme today was MetaVerse Strategies for #Brands#SMEs and #Entrepreneurs. I am so grateful to be the moderator of this series. More episodes will come shortly. Stay tuned with HKPC #Innopreneur vForum. My post on the 1st episode of this series can be found here. https://lnkd.in/dusKJYeA

Big thanks to our guest speakers Lorraine Cheung #YahooChris Wang #AWSKevin K T Lee #Redspots and Henry Chu #PillnPillow. Two of them are entrepreneurs and the other two are platform providers. That enabled us to discuss this topic from a more balanced perspective.

We discussed from MetaVerse opportunities, challenges to technologies, platforms, talents requirement and future skills. MetaVerse is not a hype but the direction is still being shaped. It is very early so everyone gets a chance but we need to keep learning and be open minded.

In essence, there are a few things that we need to strike a balance in order to make the best out of this unprecdented opportunity for the decade – MetaVerse.

1. The next 5 to 10 years will have lots of opportunities. By 2030, the market is going to reach 5 trillion USD globally. At same time, lots of regulations and governance needed to be in place to balance the opportunities and potential problems.

2. We have more opportunities from scalability to the global markets but at the same time competitions from global players.

3. New digital skills will be required but soft skills, like problem solving, communication, project management are equally important.

4. #Data analytics, #MachineLearning and #AI are crucial now and even more pivotal in the MetaVerse for customer experience and engagement.

5. SMEs are lack of resources and talents but lots of good partners in the MetaVerse ecosystem that they can leverage on.

6. Keep trying and learning to get started but be aware of the risks like losing Crypto from your hot wallets.

Lots more to come. See you in our 3rd MetaVerse episode soon. Have a good ride in your MetaVerse journey.

Thanks to Karen F.Elly Yip and their teammates #HKPCDr. Angus Ho #HKIM and Annie Yeung #Vootprint for their great effort to make this forum happened.

It was my first time to have an avatar in my panel. Can you find him in the photo? His name is “Inno”. What a way to discuss about the Next Big Thing – #MetaVerse in our Innopreneurs eForum today! Thanks for Karen F.Elly Yip and their teammates from #HKPC and Dr. Angus Ho and his teammates from HK Institute of Marketing #HKIM to make all these happened.

Certainly, the core team in our panel was the experts on MetaVerse including Chris So#AWSWilly Wong#EYSam Ngan#Popsible and Rex Wong Hong Kong Blockchain Industry Association. Over 400 audiences (online) mainly #SMEs joined this forum. It demonstrated that MetaVerse excited not only large companies, startups and investors, but also #SMEs. Appreciate the valuable sharing from all of the guest speakers in my panel.

We explored from what MetaVerse is to applications, business models and underlying technologies like #Web3#NFT#Blockchain#Cryptocurrency#VR#Cloud and more. We also talked about the roles of major stakeholders in the MetaVerse #ecosystem.

It is only the beginning of our Innopreneurs MetaVerse Series. Stay tuned for the rest of the series in the next few months. Check out HKPC 香港生產力促進局 website for more https://lnkd.in/gY57pzgW

Just finished conducting a 4 days intensive and fruitful EMBA course on Innovation and Intrapreneurship Management for CUHK. On one hand, I am exhausted. On the other hand, I am very grateful as 83 top executives from the mainland China participated my class on Zoom even under the pandemic situation. Engaging 83 executive students for 4 full days on Zoom (plus conducted in Putonghua) was not easy as you could imagine but we did have a joyful and valuable learning experience together.

Not only the number of students has broken my record of teaching EMBA class, the quality of the students were very impressive. They came from different industries like property, professional services, design, manufacturing, engineering, technology and even agriculture. At the beginning, I had some doubt on how much they wanted to learn innovation and how much effort they would put on a course as they are all busy and uprising bosses and top executives. To my surprise, they were serious and really put lots of effort to learn. Really appreciate their passion and perservance to learn.

Apart from going through core concepts and models, we learned corporate innovations and intrapreneurship by exploring 10 influential and inspiring internationl and Chinese cases. We discussed, debated and learned through this process. It was also my honour to have three elite leaders as my guest speakers to share how they innovate as a startup (Sum Wong from #EventX), a tech giant (Jacqueline Chong from #Amazon#AWS) and a traditional enterprise (Damien Wu#ChinaChem). We all learned a lot from them. Really appreciate it.

Now, I need to relax a bit and get a good sleep. Enjoy the Easter Holiday!

Grateful to spend my weekend with elite tech entrepreneurs and business leaders to learn about emerging technologies and business innovation. It is one of my classes in #CUHK Mini MBA Innovative Leadership program. It aims to #upskilling busy executives and #entrepreneurs on the latest #leadership mindset and skills in the #DigitalEconomy through a series of short modules in a few months.

I particularly like the mix of my class participants. We had quite a few startups’ founders and leaders like #Dayta, tech giants like #AWS, financial services like #HangSengBank, public sector like #HKHousingSociety and major ecosystem enabler like #HKSTP. My class in fact is a mini tech and innovation #ecosystem. One of the most valuable parts of this class was the team discussion and case studies where we could focus on the key aspects that our participants were most concerned and cared about in seizing the opportunities and managing the potential risks in the emerging digital economy.

Thanks for the active participation of all the students. Really enjoyed it and learnt from you all as well.
