Today is a bright day with a sunny and clear sky. What a great day to kick off our collaborative partnership with The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers! OpenCertHub Academy (#OCHA) and The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (#HKIB) are joining hands to upskill the data literacy of the executives and practitioners in the #Banking industry.

#Data is one of the most important assets for leading enterprises in today’s #DigitalEconomy. For #FinancialServices, data is the “new gold” or one of the most important assets these days. To unleash the power of data in the banking industry, everyone needs to speak data and treat it as their second business language.

Just having a core team of data scientists is not good enough to fully unleash the business values of data for banks. We are seeing that a few major international and local #banks are empowering the majority of their workforce on data literacy. They aim to embed a data mindset and skills with every possible colleague so that they can make use of data in their daily jobs. They also empower colleagues to communicate effectively and regularly with their data and IT teammates to come up with better and better analytics and data sources.

The prime objective of the “Data Literacy Empowerment Programme”, the flagship programme of OpenCertHub Academy (OCHA), is to democratize data literacy to everyone in a company so that they can seize the opportunities from data monetization and solve business problems with data analytics on daily basis.

The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB) is one of the major institutes to provide training and certification services to the banking community in Hong Kong. Together, OCHA and HKIB aim to contribute to the growth of data talents in the banking community and enhance the competitiveness of the banking industry in Hong Kong through the pervasive use of data. Appreciate the leadership and trust from HKIB’s Carrie Leung and Philip Kam, and the great support from their teammates, and certainly my OCHA’s teammates Andy Kwok, Dr. Victor NgPatrick TsoiCandi Yeung and more. We look forward to collaborating with HKIB to co-creating values for the growth of #FinTech in Hong Kong.

The 2nd episode of our #ToaSirDataTalk#ToaSir講數 interview series is now ready to watch. Our guest speaker this time was Mr. Daniel Kwong, the former Chief Information and Innovation Officer of #CITIC#Telecom.

Daniel shared practical tips and examples to get the most out of data for his company. We also discussed how to acquire, train and engage data scientists. In addition, Daniel shared how to nurture a data culture in his company to get non-IT colleagues across business and operation units to make use of data to seize revenue opportunities and enhance operation efficiency.

Really learned a lot from Daniel. Appreciate his sharing and thank you. That is the key objective of our programme “Toa Sir Data Talk” i.e. invite experienced business and data leaders to share their industry best practices and data strategy on making use of data in their businesses and operations.

#Data is no doubt the most important asset of leading enterprises in the #DigitalEconomy. Glad to have a fruitful discussion with elite #FinTech leaders on the theme of #FinancialInclusion on the 1st day of the 2021 Hong Kong FinTech Week #HKFTW #HKFinTechWeek. We had Tat Lee #WeLabBankVenetia Lee #AlipayDavid Rosa #Neat and myself in our panel moderated by Karen Man #BakerMckenzie.

My 3 key takeaways from our panel are:

1. Large FSIs and FinTechs need to be customer centric on empowering the #SMEs and under privileges to make use of finance to change their lives. It is not just a business model to make money but also a very meaningful PURPOSE. That aligns all key stakeholders to collaborate.

2. #Data is key for the success of financial inclusion. #FSI is a regulated industry. Banks need to use #DataScience to seize opportunities and manage the risk of financial inclusion while SMEs can make use of data to identify areas to improve their credit scores.

3. The success of Financial Inclusion needs #DataLiteracy democratization. Data is our customer voice in particular we need to deal with massive number of customers in the financial inclusion market. Every one in FSI needs to be reskilled or upskilled to be a #CitizenDataScientist. Major financial services incumbents are proactively working towards this direction.

See you on the Day 2 (Thu, Nov 4) in the following panel. I will talk to the senior executives of #HSBC on the theme – Building Billion Dollar Ecosystems.

Bernald said that Data has become every organization’s most important asset. Companies that don’t use that fuel to drive their success will inevitably fall behind. To make data valuable, companies must employ individuals with #DataLiteracy & the skills to turn the data into business value. Companies need not only DataScientists but also talents in between Data Scientists & Business. Gartner called this role CitizenDataScientist   https://lnkd.in/fa2skdn

ASEAN countries are ramping up to seize the AI and BigData opportunities. For instance, according to a latest IDC report, AI will nearly DOUBLE the rate of INNOVATION in MALAYSIA by 2021. https://lnkd.in/fm_kaXS.  A strong demand of AI and Big Data technical and business talents are there in ASEAN.  OpenCertHub www.opencerthub.com has launched its partnership program in  KL on Sep 24,  2019 to collaborate with training institutes, universities, consulting firms, government agencies, recruitment firms, etc., to authenticate and certify AI and Big Data talents. We received great responses from Malaysia’s AI and Big Data ecosystem and have already moved forward with key partners in KL. Special thanks to MD of  KnowledgeSociety Selva Nagappan, Senior Data Scientist of MDEC ADAX Dr. Poo Kuan Hoong, GAIN Global AI Network in Malaysia and Pauline Goh from InvestKL for their support. We are also working on other ASEAN countries especially Singapore , Thailandand Vietnam. If you were in the AI and Big Data ecosystem of these countries, we are happy to collaborate with you. Cheers.

Apart from GreaterBayArea, SouthEastAsia is another uprising region in the vibrant Asia. We are both ramping up our talents to prepare for AI & BigData Era. The Mission of OpenCertHub is to democratize data literacy and capabilities to everyone so that we are ready to take up new jobs created by AI instead of being replaced. We need not just DataScientist but also CitizenDataScientist. “Reskill Everyone for the Unprecedented DataEconomy” is the main theme of our upcoming workshop in KualaLumpur Malaysia on Sep 24 pm. It is our honour to co-organize it with GAIN Global Artificial Intelligence Network in Malaysia. It is a conjunction with the NextBigTech Asia 2019 conference organized by MDEC in KL last week. https://lnkd.in/frzHw3n We welcome partners and enterprises to join us to explore how we can collaborate to furthur strengthen the Data Economy in Malaysia. Please see the details on the poster below and the QR code for registration details. We will continue collaborating with SE Asia’s AI and big data ecosystem. See you soon. Towngas is a great learning organization with open culture to keep their teams innovative in the Digital Economy. They have been organizing Techtalks regularly on topics like IOT AI 5G MachineLearning to educate their colleagues at all levels updated on Innovation. They made use of lunch time & Skype to make these available to most staff in different locations. Great effort there. It was my honour to share my experience on BigData with them. Thanks for GM of Corporate IT Susanna Shen inviting me for such a great sharing session. We talked about a few key innovations to make use of big data including Philips,  Michelin, Siemens, Amazon and Alibaba. I use life examples to make this topic understandable to audiences with different backgrounds. I believe it is the key as TechTaks do not have to be RocketScience. Rather, it should bring out how technology relates to what the audiences care like customer experience. Everyone needs to be Citizen Data Scientist and high DataQuotient to make intelligent use of data to compete in today’s digital world. We also discuss Preventive Maintenance on stoves, pipes, Smart Meters to do Smart City AlgorithmaticTrading.  Great to have the discussion to trigger more inspirations. Keep it going TownGas to create more values to us. Thank you.
