Insights on Cloud Security and AI at the 8th Cloud Forum in Hong Kong

Congratulations to all the winners of the Best HR Awards 2022 organized by CTGoodJobs. Grateful being one of the judges and speakers for the Awards again. My OpenCertHub Academy team fully supported the ceremony this year. Thanks Vivienne Wong, Shirley Pi, William Ho, Reo Lam and their teammates to organize such a great award ceremony. We enjoyed our great collaboration and teamwork with the CTGoodJobs team.

I particularly appreciate this Awards because it has pioneered quite a few award categories to encourage HR leaders to cultivate digital transformation and innovation initiatives and talent to their organizations.

In this year, Data Literacy Association #DaLa www.DaLaHK.org , which was founded by a number of data leaders and I to nurture data culture in large to small organizations, jointly with CTGoodJobs created a new category called Data Literacy Award. It aims to encourage establishing data culture and enabling pervasive use of data in organizations to unleash the power of data to every employee. Congratulations to The Bank of East Asia #BEA to receive the 1st ever Grand Award of this category in Hong Kong. Really appreciate the great team effort from their FinTech, Data and Training and Development teams. Congratulations Stephen L. Kenny Au, and Doris Tong. My OpenCertHub teammates are so fortune to collaborate with the BEA team to empower their colleagues at all levels of the bank to speak the language of data.

Also happy for many HR leaders in town like Fanny Chan from China Everbright Bank Hong Kong #CEBHK, Eliza Ng #HKPC, Edmund Lam #FubonBank, Derek Wu #LKK, and many others for their amazing achievement. Also good to see young leaders like CY Chan #ECHealthCare, Bobo Wong, Michelle Chan #Microsoft, Mingo Tsang #Bowtie and more. They are with bright minds and our future as well.

As I mentioned in my talk on “Data Literacy – Build Future-proof Workforce with Second Business Language”, Digital Transformation not only needs digital experts but also HR experts as change management and culture play a pivot role in its success. Teamwork between digital teammates and HR teammates are super important. Had a very good chat with Kandy Lui #iHRM and learnt a lot from her on the HR profession and it’s latest development. Also learnt from José Carlos Bezanilla on how to make Hong Kong a Great Place to Work #GPTW.

We tapped into Cally’s brain on her view on a few interesting hot topics like Women In Tech, Hybrid Working Style, Startups, Digital Transformation, GenZ Talents, Sustainability and ESG, and certainly Cloud and MetaVerse.

We also explored the future of Hong Kong and GBA. Cally is a positive, passionate and visionary leader. Learned a lot today from the #MetaVerse practitioners in town in the 2nd forum of our “All About MetaVerse Series”. The main theme today was MetaVerse Strategies for #Brands, #SMEs and #Entrepreneurs. I am so grateful to be the moderator of this series. More episodes will come shortly. Big thanks to our guest speakers Lorraine Cheung #Yahoo, Chris Wang #AWS, Kevin K T Lee #Redspots and Henry Chu #PillnPillow. Two of them are entrepreneurs and the other two are platform providers. That enabled us to discuss this topic from a more balanced perspective.

We discussed from MetaVerse opportunities, challenges to technologies, platforms, talents requirement and future skills. MetaVerse is not a hype but the direction is still being shaped. It is very early so everyone gets a chance but we need to keep learning and be open minded.

In essence, there are a few things that we need to strike a balance in order to make the best out of this unprecdented opportunity for the decade – MetaVerse.

1. The next 5 to 10 years will have lots of opportunities. By 2030, the market is going to reach 5 trillion USD globally. At same time, lots of regulations and governance needed to be in place to balance the opportunities and potential problems.

2. We have more opportunities from scalability to the global markets but at the same time competitions from global players.

3. New digital skills will be required but soft skills, like problem solving, communication, project management are equally important.

4. #Data analytics, #MachineLearning and #AI are crucial now and even more pivotal in the MetaVerse for customer experience and engagement.

5. SMEs are lack of resources and talents but lots of good partners in the MetaVerse ecosystem that they can leverage on.

6. Keep trying and learning to get started but be aware of the risks like losing Crypto from your hot wallets.

HKPC Innopreneurs MetaVerse Series: The First eForum

It was my first time to have an avatar in my panel. Can you find him in the photo? His name is “Inno”. What a way to discuss about the Next Big Thing – #MetaVerse in our Innopreneurs eForum today! Thanks for Karen F., Elly Yip and their teammates from #HKPC and Dr. Angus Ho and his teammates from HK Institute of Marketing #HKIM to make all these happened.

Certainly, the core team in our panel was the experts on MetaVerse including Chris So#AWS, Willy Wong#EY, Sam Ngan#Popsible and Rex Wong Hong Kong Blockchain Industry Association. Over 400 audiences (online) mainly #SMEs joined this forum. It demonstrated that MetaVerse excited not only large companies, startups and investors, but also #SMEs. Appreciate the valuable sharing from all of the guest speakers in my panel.

We explored from what MetaVerse is to applications, business models and underlying technologies like #Web3, #NFT, #Blockchain, #Cryptocurrency, #VR, #Cloud and more. We also talked about the roles of major stakeholders in the MetaVerse #ecosystem.

(Hong Kong) How to make our customers WOW by smart use of data?

“Make Something WOW” was the message on the wall behind Michael Yung and I. That was close to what we have talked about. How to make our customers #WOW by smart use of #data?

This was another episode of the #ToaSirDataTalk #ToaSir講數 series organized by #OpenCertHub #OCH. Michael is an veteran in the #TravelTech and #CustomerLoyalty industry. We discussed how to leverage on data in the #B2C and #B2B markets.

Michael has been using data to empower his company to understand their consumers and offer the most suitable products and services to them. Another key customer of this industry is merchants. Michael also makes use of data to help his merchants to design right products and campaigns to their customers. We also talked about the key roles of data in a #platform.

We have discussed how data are being used in the Travel and Customer Loyalty industry. Michael is also an expert in data security. He also shared how to do a proper data governance to protect their customers and his company. We also touched on the challenges and opportunities on cross-border data sharing and #cloud strategies on #BigData and #AI applications. Thank you Michael.

Grateful to see and contribute to another great offline conference today. The 6th #Cloud Forum Hong Kong was successful launched today at the #HKCEC. The main theme was Cloud HyperDrive in Disruptive Time.

I was moderating the 1st panel of the forum and the topic was #CloudMigration. We had a good mix of experiences in our panel so we could make insightful discussion from different perspectives. It included well established company Dr. Ted Suen, MH #MTR, vibrant #FinTech #InsurTech #Startup Michael Kwan Yu Chan #Bowtie and leading Cloud Service provider #AWS  .

It was a very insightful discussion. We touched on internal buy in, Capex and Opex changes in adopting Cloud, governance, partner selection, outsourcing strategy, SME challenges, etc. Thank you for all our panelists’ insightful and practical experience sharing.

Interplay “ABC” is the Key to Successful Digital Transformation

What is #ABC?  #AI  Blockchain Cloud How these technologies interplay & contribute to DigitalTransformation? That was the topic of our panel discussion in the 5th Cloud Forum in Hong Kong.

We were so honoured to have digital thought leaders & evangelists in town to share their experience & I was the moderator of the panel. Big thank to Mr. Ravel Lai, CDO,  DaiCheongHong Ravel Lai, Dr. Lawrence Ma, President, HongKongBlockchainSociety Dr. Lawrence Ma, Mr. Sankar Villupuram, Digital Services Leader – East Asia,  Arup Sankar V S, & Mr. Michael Yung, Head of Digital Product & Technology,  AsiaMiles Michael Yung

We shared mainly the real cases on ground like RPA,  SupplyChain Optimisation, SmartContract, TradeFinance. Key takeaways are as follows:

1. Customer value is the most important thing. Don’t have to know it is a part of Blockchain or AI.

2. With today’s technology, it is a lot easier & cheaper to try out AI.

3. Talents & culture are a challenge.

4. In the last decade, Coding is the basic for jobs. In the next decade, Data capability becomes a basic skill to survive & compete.
