Glad to catch up with Cally Chan GM, #Microsoft Hong Kong, to exchange ideas on the innovation and technology ecosystem and how we can collaborate to co-contribute more to Hong Kong. It was a meaningful discussion. Appreciate that, Cally.

Cally and I have things crossing over each other. Cally is one of our elite #CUHK#EMBA alumni and I am now a professor and associate director of our EMBA programme in CUHK. We are both very passionate in enpowering the #innovation and #technology ecosystem, in particular #startups and #entrepreneurs, in Hong Kong. Will continue to co-creating values for the ecosystem.

Back to the RTHK station today for recording another episode of New Management Thinking 管理新思維. Found a classical radio in 1950 there powered by Vaccum Tube. Oh, WOW! That actually made me think about my childhood with my whole family around a radio like this. It was as advanced and luxurious as what we have a 8k TV today. More importantly, a much more warmth and intimacy with my family back then. What a memory! Transforming a city from an old model to a smart city is like improving from a vintage radio to a 8K TV. Let’s talk about Smart City this time and why every citizen in Hong Kong should care about it. Grateful to have Thomson Lai, the Asia Digital Head of AECOM, as my guest for another fruitful episode in the RTHK’s New Management Thinking 管理新思維. #AECOM is one of key contributors in planning and building our city of Hong Kong in the last 60+ years. Received a book from Thomson called “Hong Kong Created Together”. Lots of Hong Kong’s history from nobody to one of the top cities with world-class infrastructure. Thanks the contribution from Thomson and his AECOM 艾奕康 colleagues. We started talking about what a smart city is. Then we discussed what Hong Kong has been doing in the journey of becoming a smart city, how other leading cities are doing, what key stakeholders are in a smart city and how they are empowering our city as a smart city. Certainly we talked about how emerging #technologies and #data are impacting smart cities. Very interesting. You don’t want to miss it. Really appreciate Thomson’s sharing and my RTHK partner Phoebe. My key takeaways are: 1. Citizen centricity 2. Innovation and entrepreneurship 3. Pan-city digital infrastructure If you would like to learn more from Thomson on Smart City now and the future, please tune in RTHK1 on Jun 19 at 2pm. https://lnkd.in/f-X8RaN For previous episodes of the programme, please visit here. https://lnkd.in/dWRkD_x7 #SmartCity #DigitalCity #RTHK #RTHK1 #FM94 #NewManagementThinking #管理新思維 #CUHK #CitizenJourney #MomentsOfLife #Data #BIM #DigitalTwins #AI #IOT #5G #MetaVerse #VR #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #Startups

“Think and Act BOLDER Culture: Co-creating Values for Our Customers” is the main theme for the 2nd Mastermind Forum of Sunlife Hong Kong. This series of forums aim to empower Sunlife’s teammates and their ecosystem to innovate more effectively for customer value creation. Over 350 Sunlife colleagues and their ecosystem partners have participated in the forum today through f2f and online channels. More forums on different themes are on the road ahead. We have invited the top leaders in innovation from tech giants, conglomerates, and startups to be our guest panelists. Grateful to moderate this fruitful discussion panel. We talked about the values, challenges, critical success factors, #culture#leadership, and #talents for corporate innovation, especially in traditional companies. Our panelists shared practical examples and tips with Sunlife colleagues and their #ecosystem partners. Big thanks to our panel speakers Tat Lee #WeLabJacqueline Chong #AWS #AmazonHerman Cheng #SHKTeddy Liu, and Cynthia Sit #SunLife. Can you tell the difference between these 2 photos? Obviously one was with me and the other one was without me. Welcome back to our #CUHK campus CUHK Business School.

I am seeing more f2f activities of my academia and industry lives. I am having 4 business lunches and 4 classes this week… Really good to see our energy is coming back after a serious Covid surge in Hong Kong. Hope everyone stays healthy and businesses and classes back to normal or even reach another peak.

Let’s “kickoff” another new era for Hong Kong after all these cloudy days. Add oil together. Cheers.

What does #retirement mean to you? Are you ready for your retirement journey? Who are in the #ecosystem and how can we collaborate together to make a difference to prepare Hong Kong people, rich or poor, old or young, for our retirement? How #innovation and #technology can achieve something that couldn’t be done before? and more..

I was so grateful to gather a group of experts in the ecosystem of retirement to discuss in the Mastermind Series of Sun Life Hong Kong. Sun Life has been in Hong Kong for 130 years.. Yes, 130 years since 1892. To keep on innovating, they launched this series to empower their colleagues and advisors to think and act “BOLDER and Beyond”. More to come in the Mastermind Series in the months ahead.

We also did a few polling questions to get feedback from about 600 audiences. One key question is:
Which of the following aspects on retirement is the most important to you?
1. Financials
2. Health
3. Life Style and Social Circle

What is your answer? Close to 70% of our audiences chose #Health. We did have a deep discussion on these 3 aspects and how to balance them. We also explored different retirement ways in key cities around the world as well as #GBA.

Thank you so much to Sun Life’s Clement Lam and all the panel speakers Hedy SatLouis LeeCindy Wong and Raymond Lai to share their thoughts on an important journey that everyone of us does care for ourselves and our families. Appreciate the great support from Alice ChuckShirley MakCarmen Lo and their teammates, and my teammates from CUHK. Have a nice weekend.

Just finished conducting a 4 days intensive and fruitful EMBA course on Innovation and Intrapreneurship Management for CUHK. On one hand, I am exhausted. On the other hand, I am very grateful as 83 top executives from the mainland China participated my class on Zoom even under the pandemic situation. Engaging 83 executive students for 4 full days on Zoom (plus conducted in Putonghua) was not easy as you could imagine but we did have a joyful and valuable learning experience together.

Not only the number of students has broken my record of teaching EMBA class, the quality of the students were very impressive. They came from different industries like property, professional services, design, manufacturing, engineering, technology and even agriculture. At the beginning, I had some doubt on how much they wanted to learn innovation and how much effort they would put on a course as they are all busy and uprising bosses and top executives. To my surprise, they were serious and really put lots of effort to learn. Really appreciate their passion and perservance to learn.

Apart from going through core concepts and models, we learned corporate innovations and intrapreneurship by exploring 10 influential and inspiring internationl and Chinese cases. We discussed, debated and learned through this process. It was also my honour to have three elite leaders as my guest speakers to share how they innovate as a startup (Sum Wong from #EventX), a tech giant (Jacqueline Chong from #Amazon#AWS) and a traditional enterprise (Damien Wu#ChinaChem). We all learned a lot from them. Really appreciate it.

Now, I need to relax a bit and get a good sleep. Enjoy the Easter Holiday!

Glad to have Mr. Clement Lam, CEO of Sun Life Hong Kong, be my guest on the RTHK radio programme – New Management Thinking 管理新思維. Really appreciate Clement’s sharing and time, and my RTHK partner Jenny Lee. We talked about how insurance companies innovate. While we are seeing some progress in this space, there are still quite a few internal and external challenges to making changes and innovations to this legacy industry. What have we discussed? 1. Sun Life has been in Hong Kong for more than a hundred years (130 years to be exact). Clement shared his experience of how to change the culture of a well-established company with many professionals and legacy culture to encourage and embrace innovation. 2. Leveraging and investing in startups (for example, Sun Life invested in Bowtie) and collaborating with the ecosystem are other topics that we discussed. 3. We also talked about opportunities and challenges for insurance companies in Hong Kong and the GBA. 4. We exchanged ideas on acquiring, cultivating and retaining the right talents, especially for young generations. 5. Leveraging slashers in the Gig and Sharing Economy is becoming a trend and more companies are making use of it. And a lot more.. If you would like to learn more from our discussion, please tune in RTHK1 this coming Sun (Apr 17) from 2 pm to 4 pm. https://lnkd.in/f-X8RaN Update: You can listen to it here now https://lnkd.in/gYddhHHW #insurance #insurtech #healthtech #fintech #startup #ecosystem #Bowtie #RTHK #香港電台 #管理新思維 #NewManagementThinking 永明金融 #SunLife #SunLifeHK #GigEconomy #SharingEconomy #GBA #GreaterBayArea CUHK Business SchoolCUHK EMBA#CUHK #CUHKEMBA #EMBA Andrew Chan Pong Yuen, Howard Lam Chun So

We had a nice evening in #Macau, well virtually. Macau is a beautiful place as you can see in the photo below. I had a webinar designed especially for audiences from Macau last night together with my CUHK EMBA teammates. Hope I can see f2f all my friends, students, and partners in Macau very soon.

The topic was Digital Transformation for Traditional Enterprises. I invited Winson C. W., our CUHK EMBA alumnus, and a Macau native, to share his experience with the digital transformation in Macau. I am very proud of what Winson and many other CUHK alumni from Macau have achieved. They are now contributing to the growth of Macau particularly by seizing the opportunities and managing the challenges arising from the GBA. Winson has shared a few local innovation cases led by our alumni, such as Judy Wong (Robi 3), Antonio (集運幫), and Acen 江總(澳覓). It was impressive. Thank you, Winson.

Winson also shared his CUHK EMBA journey, such as, learning from top industry leaders and faculties, picking up new knowledge, theories and models, making new connections, contributing to society, classmates becoming lifetime friends, enriching his global vision, and more. While most of Macau’s young generation has gone through an undergraduate programme, not too many of them have taken further to upskill themselves with an internationally recognized EMBA programme like CUHK. Apart from strategy, marketing, finance, and human capital, we also have a unique focus and strong faculty on #DigitalTransformation#CorporateInnovation#ChineseWisdom, and #Entrepreneurship – the most needed knowledge and skills in the VUCA*Digital Era.

To better contribute to Macau’s future growth in GBA, EMBA is a good option for the next generation of leaders in Macau to pursue. Here is a link for more.

We kicked off our Hong Kong #CorporateInnovationIndex #CII programme last year https://lnkd.in/geGBxEVS. CII is being co-organized by #CUHK and #HKGCC, and has gained full support from #ITF#HKSTP#Cyberport and many other leading enterprises, tech leaders and professional associations.

Since then, apart from research and literature review, we have done a series of consultation sessions and pilot studies with industry leaders and practitioners. We are grateful that we have finished the design of our Corporate Innovation Framework. Thank you so much to all those who have contributed to our framework and definitely my teammates at CUHK.

The framework contains 12 factors under three constructs – Resources, Enablers and Value. If you would like to know more about the framework, please let me know. Based on the framework, we have designed a survey to measure the corporate innovation of large companies and SMEs.

We have started introducing the Corporate Innovation Framework and the survey to different associations and companies. Today, we have done a joint webinar with #HKiNEDA for their #INED members. Appreciate their support. We did have a good discussion today. If your associations or companies would like to organize a session to learn about our Corporate Innovation Framework, please let me know.

We have just launched the CII survey and are now collecting data. If you would like to have a health check for the innovativness of your company, I would encourage you to participate the survey. Find out more here https://lnkd.in/gzykEWCF.

It is not just a ranking exercise. Rather, it will give you a good opportunity to discuss about innovation with your colleagues when you are filling up the survey. You will find out and learn more about your company.

We will also provide assessment to you so you know where you are and where to improve. A series of workshops and trainings will be offered then.

Let’s together enhance the innovativeness of our companies, our teams and ourselves.
