Dr. Toa Charm will intend Center for Management and Innovation on December 15, 2016. This activity is held by HKU Space in three locations in the same time as Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai. Dr. Charm participates in the one in Shenzhen and gives a speech on a topic of “Disruptive Business Models Game Changers for Traditional Enterprises in Hong Kong”.

On December 1st,2015, Globalization Senior Executives Salaon kicked off in Hangzhou. Dr. Toa Charm participated in it and shared his valuable experience with Chinese business elites on the topic of “Strategic Thinking: the Secret Recipe of Grasping Global Business Opportunities”.

与时俱进方能在新的全球化环境中运筹帷幄。为了在国际经济全球化大气候下拓宽中国企业视野,香港大学SPACE中国商业学院特别举办“2015年度全球化高管系列沙龙”,为期一个月的系列沙龙活动将分别于杭州、广州、北京、深圳、上海五地开展密集的讲座活动,特邀多位曾服务于IBM、汇丰银行、甲骨文、李宁等知名品牌的高管、以及来自法律、咨询行业专家,与中国企业管理人共同探讨全球化环境下的企业生存之道。

湛家扬博士用刚刚结束的“双十一”为大家展现了一副全球化的商业画面,这场购物狂欢为中国企业带来机遇的同时,也让许多中国的传统企业倍感忧虑甚至恐慌。为此,他认为大家在恐慌之前应该先思考几个问题,即是否在商学院所学的战略都是错的?跨国企业及互联网企业已经占尽上风?传统企业已难以翻身,注定要走下坡路?

答案当然是否定的。湛家扬博士认为,谁能有效融合各方优点,制定合适的全球化战略及“互联网+”战略,谁就能掌握环球商机并取得最终胜利。他以苹果公司等多个世界级领导品牌的成功经验,犀利指出当下中国企业最欠缺的不是运营能力而是创新能力。同时他指出,企业想要在互联网时代获得发展,除了需要大幅度提升创新能力外,还需要加强全球化供应能力和改变商业模式,以此来提高利润率和品牌竞争力,从而真正改写被时代颠覆的命运。面对全球化及市场化的压力,中国企业必须要转型。第一步是以客户为导向然后核心竞争力的转变的一个转型。做好了这一块还不够,因为我们有很多国际化的对手在我们的旁边和我们拼。我们不是一个企业和另一个企业的竞争,而是一个供应链和另一个供应链的竞争。但是我们做好了第一二代转型都不够,我们还要重视及制定数字化的战略,重点是企业要了解这些新的科技能给予他们客户的价值有多高,才可以在“互联网+”市场里分一杯羹。最后,湛博士提出了未来在数字化转型中我们要做好准备的六个重点。不管你是传统企业还是互联网企业,就看谁最终可以把这六点做好就是最终赢家。包括从消费者的角度出发的C2B思维,颠覆性的创新,从规模(SCALE)到范围(SCOPE),从供应链到生态圈的概念,把社交煤体变成企业的资产及把大数据变成企业的核心竞爭力等。

Over the past decade, the Internet has brought lots of successful business models all over the world, creating a series of outstanding companies and cultivate a large number of young business leaders and rich. Google and Tencent are the outstanding representatives in the Internet era. While the Internet continues developing rapidly, there is another more subversive waves increasingly approaching us – big data.

McKinsey believes that, big data occupies a pivotal position among twelve disruptive technologies. Just like the Internet, all industries are challenged by big data, while the market rules continues being destroyed. Innovative enterprises have already mastered the road to success. They are not only able to beat their competitors in the same industries, but also challenge other industry leaders.

To achieve success in the age of big data, apart from being proficient in big data, it is more important to be innovative. This is also the weakest part for Chinese enterprises while compared with foreign enterprises. Innovation is highly needed for finding out new business opportunities from internal and external data, increasing profits by reforming the existing business model, improving customer satisfaction and promoting royalty.

During the speech, Dr. Charm (Toa Sir) will share the innovations in using big data for some oversea enterprises in different industries. He will also analyze the new business models developed by a series of global big data start-ups and how they impact our current and future today and in the future.

Ma Huateng even made four motions in the NPC, one of which is the “Internet+ecology” strategy. On 2015 August 8th, HKU SPACE Institute of China Business invited Dr. Toa Charm to make a speech in Beijing. Dr. Charm would share his view on how Chinese and foreign enterprises could face the challenge of the Internet business and how they could create their own “Internet+” environment.

On March 16, 2016, Dr. Toa Charm gave an online seminar with the topic of “B2B Strategic Thinking in Internet+ Era”. In this WeChat group, participants can not only gain the valuable opinions and experience from Dr. Toa, but also have some interactions with him.

Globalization and digitization brings lots of opportunities for Chinese enterprises. Meanwhile, many traditional Chinese enterprises are worried and even feel panic about that. Multinational corporations and Internet companies just like a beast that is challenging and subverting the traditional business. Those strategies, business models and core competencies, which were proven for a long time, are not applicable any more. Business leaders have to ask themselves a few key questions: are the strategies taught by business schools wrong? Do multinational corporations and Internet companies prevail in this competition? Is it too difficult for Traditional Enterprises to change this situation? It is who can get make full use of the advantages from all each party and develop an appropriate strategy for globalization and Internet+ that is able to grasp global opportunities and ultimately become the winner.

During this seminar, Dr. Toa Charm will share some of the best strategists’ (such as Mckinsey and BCG) strategic thinkings and the examples about how they adjust their business’s or customers’ strategies to face the challenges from globalization and “Internet+”
