The world’s top 5 companies are #Platform in terms of Market Cap. They are #Microsoft, #Apple, #Amazon, #Alphabet, #Facebook, not the traditional leaders. Successful unicorns are mainly platforms like #Uber, #Airbnb I have designed a 2 days Platform Strategy & Breakthrough training program for executives to learn & unlock the potentials of platform business models for their companies. The training was done last week. The participants were from #FinancialServices, #Retail, #Telecom. We have discussed a few inspirational cases #Airbnb, #ZBJ, #XFire, #Qihoo, #Dianrong, #Quicken, #Adobe, #Nike, #Hema, etc. The participants learned about the best industry practices of platform like #NetworkEffect, #ChickenAndEgg, #Multihoming, #Disintermediation, #Monetization #Governance, etc. I have also invited Norman Tam from #Tencent & Samuel C.H. Wan from #Stockviva to share their wisdom to design, run, monetize, govern their platforms. It was very useful. To thank them & my students for a fruitful two days, everyone received my book #數碼力大提升 with my autograph. This course is a part of the #DigitalLeadershipSeries for Executive Program that I designed for #CUHK. Other courses include #AI, #Blockchain, #CorporateInnovation, #Entrepreneurship, etc. More here. https://lnkd.in/gZBZmjp

#Platform is the KING. The world’s leading companies are running Platform business. SMEs are being replaced by large & small platforms from #startups. How can we compete in #DigitalEconomy?

Why are platforms so powerful? Can we or should we be a platform? How to build, cultivate, operate, govern & sustain a platform profitably? What are capabilities, culture & tech needed? More importantly, what is the best-kept secret of a winning platform?

To master all these, please don’t miss my class “Platform Revolution & Breakthrough” at #CUHK Biz School Asia-Pacific Institute of Biz on Oct 14-15, 2020.

I have talked about Platform in my #EMBA #MBA #Tech #Innovation #Entrepreneurship classes & seminars plus in my new book #數碼力大提升 (Boost up Your Digital Power) https://lnkd.in/g4_RWBE. I will explore deeper in this course with #international & #local cases.

#Corporate #SME #Startup leaders & executives are keen on the course & have already enrolled it. Good news is that the course is eligible for the govt #RTTP scheme & the participants may get #subsidy from the scheme but have to enrol the course quick (2 weeks b4 the class starts) to be qualified.

Today was the graduation ceremony of the 3rd cohort of our #MiniMBA programme co-orgainized by #CUHK #BusinessSchool #APIB & #Convoy since April 2019. We’re so grateful to have trained over hundreds of high-calibre Convoy executives. https://lnkd.in/gmXVW_3

Every cohort had 9 modules taught by our faculties with deep real-world industry experience. #ActionLearning projects done by our students were full of #entrepreneurship passion. The best projects are further cultivated & funded to progress further. Industry seminars on #FinTech topics were held https://lnkd.in/gzQy_-8. The inspired Convoy team then initiated its own #Hackathon #Finspire with great success https://lnkd.in/gJQupVP. Convoy also supported #Cyberport #CUPP & joined #MIT #InnovationNode workshop.

The last 15 months was a fruitful training journey for all students from Convoy & CUHK faculties. That is an excellent example of how corporates & universities worked together to cultivate the next generation of leaders to seize unprecedented opportunities in digital economy & manage chaotic world.

Thanks to Convoy Wing-Fai Ng Almond Wong Shin Kin Hang Shirley Tsui Miu Ling & CUHK Waiman Cheung Wendy Lai Rebecca Wong. Appreciate great effort from our faculties & students and congrats to all accomplishments.

5 passionate and innovative teams from our CUHK Convoy MiniMBA programme have presented their “NextBigThing” projects today. The winning team not only won a marvellous award but also their project will have good potential to be a real project.
It was the most important part of the whole programme as each team has to capitalize what they learnt from the 10 modules of the programme & innovate like a startup. Rather than just training, it cultivates the intrapreneurship & innovation mindset & capabilities for the participants. It becomes a DNA of the staff & the company for sustainable competitiveness in the ever-changing DigitalEconomy.
The programme include EmergingTechnology, DesignThinking, High Performance Leadership, CorporateGovernance, Strategy Investment Decisions, and more. I’m so grateful to have a chance to contribute, design, teach & coach the participants.  Look at how they summarized what they learnt on the white boards – impressive. Witnessing their changes & improvement is amazing. It has been 2 cohorts already & the 3rd cohort is on now. Keep it going, teams. You are all our champions.
Big thanks to Convoy Almond Wong, Shirley Tsui Miu Ling, Bobo Wong, WF Ng, Henry Shin CUHK APIB Rebecca Wong, Prof WM Cheung,  Wendy Lai

Macau gets into the next decade with great opportunities. It was not said for no reason.

The new government will start on 20 December 2019. It will be led by a great leader Ho Iat-seng who has extensive experience in various industries and a strong relationship with the mainland and Asia.  In addition, all casinos are required to renew their licenses by 2022. The policies of the Greater Bay Area from the Central Government will be provided more support to Macau. Portuguese-speaking countries, such as Portugal and Brazil, provide good access to their home markets plus countries in Europe and Latin America. More are being explored like RMB Clearing, Stock Exchange, Green Financing, Smart City, MICE, etc. Certainly, there are challenges to be resolved by the new administration together with the business and academic leaders in Macau.

In the past few years, I have been contributing to the government, business and academic communities in Macau especially on innovation and Technology (FinTech, AI, Big Data, Smart City ), Entrepreneurship, Talent Development, and Training areas.

If you are interested in sharing your knowledge and contributing your expertise with Macau or if you have ideas or plans to leverage these opportunities in Macau, please feel free to contact me for potential collaboration.  Let’s nurture Macau to be another great and smart city in the Greater Bay Area and contribute to improving the quality of lives and economy in the region.

Here are some of the snapshot photos taken in my engagement with Macau societies.

It is absolutely critical to have leading manufacturers,  financial services institutes &  startups to collaborate together to co-create innovative solutions to solve customers’ pain points & come up with new business models to seize the market opportunities in the Digital Economy. Hong Kong Startup 2.0 – Building Hong Kong to be a Global Innovation Hub

“Hong Kong has entered Startup 2.0.  In Startup 1.0, we focused on quantity. Four years ago, we did not have a large number of startups but now we do.  In Startup 2.0, we aim at quality. Our goal is to cultivate high-quality startups, bridge them with large and small enterprises for a win-win collaboration, and get adequate funding or ‘Smart Money’ for the startups to scale up in terms of technologies and market coverage, ” says Prof. Charm

The Talents Development Committee of Macau SAR Government to gather overseas Macao’s talents back to Macao to share their experience with the Monetary Authority of Macau, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre, University of Macau, Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, etc. Macao-native international talents on  FinTech, Chinese Medicine, and  Entrepreneurship were included in this time.   Macao press on the visit

It was my honour to be a part of it and shared my experience on innovation and technology industry, in particular, FinTech, AI, IoT, SmartCity, Entrepreneurship, Startup with senior government officials, corporate executives and academia. It was a fruitful trip to learn how Macao plans to strengthen their business link with Portuguese speaking countries like Portugal Brazil and position themselves in the Greater Bay Area. Also, how they plan to do more on Entrepreneurship and Smart City. With the new Chief Executive on board in 2020 plus the gambling license renewal of the 6 casinos in 2022, Macao will have a great chance to transform and flourish. If you would like to collaborate with Macao, please let me know.

Internet Professional Association and Hong Kong Cyberport invites Dr. Toa Charm to share his experience in the Global Entrepreneurship Week China in Hong Kong on 19 Nov, 2015.

In 2004, Entrepreneurship Week UK was launched through the initiative of former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Inspired by the event, the United States held Entrepreneurship Week USA for the first time in 2007. Global Entrepreneurship Week is the combination and extension of these two events. Shanghai Technology Entrepreneurship Foundation for Graduates sponsored Entrepreneurship Week China in 2007.

The weeklong event links millions of young people around the world through local, national and global activities to help unleash their potential for entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurs, students, educators, businesses, business leaders, employees, leaders of non-profit organizations and government officials will participate in a series of activities to mobilize all sectors of society, move people to action and accelerate the development of entrepreneurship worldwide by promoting local and global entrepreneurial activities. This global initiative inspires young people to develop their ability to innovate, imagination and creativity.

Global Entrepreneurship Week promotes an entrepreneurial culture through passionate global interactive activities. This culture will take root in people’s daily lives, so that young people can feel an entrepreneurial atmosphere in all places and at all times (at school, at home, on the Internet, and at work). Such a new attempt as Global Entrepreneurship Week can unleash the entrepreneurial potential of young people and give rise to a new generation of entrepreneurs. They will actively seek to acquire the knowledge, skills, contacts and values required for establishing an innovative and sustainable business, thereby having a positive impact on their own life and people around them.
