SunLife’s Mastermind Series: Achieve a Better Retirement Life with Innovation and Technology

What does #retirement mean to you? Are you ready for your retirement journey? Who are in the #ecosystem and how can we collaborate together to make a difference to prepare Hong Kong people, rich or poor, old or young, for our retirement? How #innovation and #technology can achieve something that couldn’t be done before? and more..

I was so grateful to gather a group of experts in the ecosystem of retirement to discuss in the Mastermind Series of Sun Life Hong Kong. Sun Life has been in Hong Kong for 130 years.. Yes, 130 years since 1892. To keep on innovating, they launched this series to empower their colleagues and advisors to think and act “BOLDER and Beyond”. More to come in the Mastermind Series in the months ahead.

We also did a few polling questions to get feedback from about 600 audiences. One key question is:
Which of the following aspects on retirement is the most important to you?
1. Financials
2. Health
3. Life Style and Social Circle

What is your answer? Close to 70% of our audiences chose #Health. We did have a deep discussion on these 3 aspects and how to balance them. We also explored different retirement ways in key cities around the world as well as #GBA.

Glad to have Mr. Clement Lam, CEO of Sun Life Hong Kong, be my guest on the RTHK radio programme – New Management Thinking 管理新思維. Really appreciate Clement’s sharing and time, and my RTHK partner Jenny Lee. We talked about how insurance companies innovate. While we are seeing some progress in this space, there are still quite a few internal and external challenges to making changes and innovations to this legacy industry. What have we discussed? 1. Sun Life has been in Hong Kong for more than a hundred years (130 years to be exact). Clement shared his experience of how to change the culture of a well-established company with many professionals and legacy culture to encourage and embrace innovation. 2. Leveraging and investing in startups (for example, Sun Life invested in Bowtie) and collaborating with the ecosystem are other topics that we discussed. 3. We also talked about opportunities and challenges for insurance companies in Hong Kong and the GBA. 4. We exchanged ideas on acquiring, cultivating and retaining the right talents, especially for young generations. 5. Leveraging slashers in the Gig and Sharing Economy is becoming a trend and more companies are making use of it. And a lot more.. As a member of the GS1 HK’s IoT Industry Advisor Council, I am glad to join the 16th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao IoT Technology Application Summit co-organised by GS1 HK today in 3 locations, mainland, Hong Kong and #Macau, simultaneously.

Appreciate the effort from Anna Lin, Corinna Fung, Julian Sin#GS1HK, Kingsley Wong #OGCIO, Ivan Lam#ASTRI, 龍勝當 #澳門電腦學會，and certainly counterparts in Guangdong. Glad to see many industry experts there as well Andrew Ling, wilson chong, Vincent So, Ir Dr Venus Lun, Harman Ng, Kinsen Lee, Bryan Peng(彭文俊)Alex Chung 鍾孝揚 and many others.

Great to see the collaboration across 3 regions on IoT applications on various industries. To make our Greater Bay Area or GBA work, we need smart money flow (FinTech and RegTech), smart logistics flow (AIOT) and certainly smart information flow (AI and Big Data). All these flows have to be protected by CyberSecurity and Blockchain.

Thanks for Anna’s leadership and her GS1HK team effort. Look forward to having more collaboration in these areas and contributing more in this alliance across the #GreaterBayArea#GBA in 2022 and beyond.

#ASTRI 應科院 is one of the major pillars for Hong Kong #Innovation and #Technology #ecosystem. They have been empowering many tech companies, #startups and large enterprises and SMEs on applying technologies to solve problems from #FinTech to #MetaVerse, from #Cybersecurity to #IC. I am grateful to sit down with Dr. Denis Yip 葉成輝, the CEO of ASTRI, to talk about his vision on the tech industry in #GBA and how Hong Kong can seize the emerging opportunities. I also learnt from Denis how he is leading ASTRI to empower Hong Kong companies and startups to leverage on their technologies and IPs to further develop their products and services. We talked about many other interesting points and I really enjoyed our conversation. Denis is a leader with great vision and wisdom in particular on tech #talent cultivation. ASTRI not only has experienced researchers and technologists in house, but also trained so many talents who are now great entrepreneurs running their own startups. Dennis talked about ASTRI in fact is like a Kung Fu training school #ShaolinTemple #少林寺。 He is planning to build a strong alumni network so that they can continue to collaborate. It is also a good timing to attract and recruit Hong Kong citizens with tech background, who are now in foreign countries, to be back and work in Hong Kong. Appreciate Denis to share his valuable experience with me and our on-site and online audiences. The good news for this year is that we are witnessing better and stronger teams year from year. Here are the 3 key highlights.

1. We had record high in terms of number of applications this year.

2. We had richer varieties of #FinTech innovations this year, such as #InsurTech, #RegTech, #Tokenization, #AI on HR in Financial Services.

3. We also appreciated more collaboration of FinTech #startups #entrepreneurs and financial services incumbents #leaders to #cocreate better customer experience, products and services, and innovate new business models. From competition to collaboration.

With this foundation and FinTech ecosystem that we have built for Hong Kong, plus initiatives like HKMA #FinTech2025 and #CDI, #GBA, #ESG, #InsuranceConnect, etc., We are expecting even better innovations coming in the next few years.

Congrats to all of you including myself and be grateful to be a part of the FinTech innovation journey for Hong Kong. Thank you.

#GBA (80+ million people in 11 cities of South China) and #ASEAN (650+ million people in 10 countries of SE Asia) are the two biggest and rapidly growing markets nearby Hong Kong. Enterprises, #SMEs and #Startups in Hong Kong are finding ways to seize these unprecedented opportunities for them.

(Hong Kong) Accelerating Digital Transformation of Hong Kong Enterprises at Greater Bay Area

Really grateful to have an opportunity to discuss with GBA and digitalization experts in Hong Kong as well as mainland China. Thanks for #SAP #HKET #HKPC #GBABusinessSchool jointly organized it.

In particular, I was really pleased that we had my mentoring professor Andrew Chan, the President of the #GBA Business School, to share his views on the development of the GBA region.

Then, we had a panel on #DigitalTransformation in the context of the GBA with 2 of my friends. I firstly talked about the key success factors of digital transformation where customer centricity was the key. Andrew Ling from #SAP shared his experience to manage supply chain under uncertainty. Edmond Lai from #HKPC went through a few examples how #SMEs in Hong Kong to leverage on technologies to seize opportunities and manage challenges in these few years including the pandemic time.

Two leading enterprises from the mainland, #Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. and #Terminexus (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. also shared their digital transformation experience. They were the winners of the Digital Transformation Awards #鼎革獎。
