It was one of the best forums on #AI and #BigData that I have hosted in the recent years where speakers and participants were highly engaged. Thanks for Shanghai Commercial Bank to invite my team #OpenCertHub to co-organize this forum.

#ShanghaiCommercialBank is one of the major banks in Hong Kong. They are passionate about #DigitalTransformation in particular how to become a AI-first data-driven bank.

I have invited top Hong Kong locally-grown AI #startups, multinational consulting firm and Chinese tech-savvy financial group to share with Shanghai Commercial Bank how they have empowered mid-sized banks in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other major economies in Asia. We have talked through AI technologies, application, adoption, challenges, culture, #ecosystem#data#reskilling#upskilling and more.

More importantly, CEO Mr. David Kwok and Board Member Mr. Sunny Cheung fully supported and engaged with us. They asked sensible questions and encouraged their senior management, middle management and young colleagues to proactively participate and have the courage to innovate. More than 250 staff have joined the forum on site and online as well. We also exchanged ideas through networking sessions.

Really appreciate the trust and support from Mr. Kwok, Mr. Cheung and their senior management. Special thanks to Ken Shih #AqumonCalvin Cheng, CFA #WizpressoMiles Wen (温豪夫) #FanolabsPatrick C.S. Fan #beNoveltyDaniel Ling #OneConnect, and Dick Fong. Also thanks my OpenCertHub teammate Andy Kwok and our team for their effort behind the scene.

Hope mid-sized banks in Asia can ride on AI to stay competitive and relevant in the #DigitalEconomy.

Venture Beyond Boundaries – I love this vision of #CityU #HongKongTech300. The program has gained tremendous support from the power houses and leaders from the #Innovation and #Technogy ecosystem in Hong Kong. It was a great ceremony yesterday to present the seeding funds to selected #startups for the program, appreciate and recognize experienced mentors and annouce the collaboratiom with the China Resources Group #CRC.

#ITB Secetary, #HKSTP Chairman, #Cyberport Chairman, #FHKI Chairman, #StartupCouncil Chairman and many other leaders in town were there to show their support.

I am grateful, as a CityU #DBA Alumni, as well as a Exco of FHKI Startup Council, to be a part of this program as a mentor and vetting team. It was my honor to receive the appreciation plaque from Mr Lester Garson Huang, Chairman of the CityU Council, and President Way Kuo of CityU.

Just completed a meaningful and joyful project with a group of my #CUHK #MBA students to do research and make recommendations to one of the leading InsurTech #startups from Hong Kong, #Bowtie. Really proud of my students Kinsley Chan, JACKIE XU and Shaarang Begani on their effort and insights.

Appreciate Bowtie’s team Gabriel Kung and his teammates to collaborate with and support my students on this amazing project. Thanks the leadership from Fred Ngan and Michael Kwan Yu Chan, and their effort to nurture our next generation and give back to our society.

Learning cannot be just done within classroom. Practise in the field, validate with the practitioners and apply what we learned from the class are critical to turn information to knowledge and wisdom. That is what the Business #Practicum Program of #CUHKMBA aims for.

I am so grateful to be a mentor for this impactful program. Thanks Seen Meng ChewSerina ChowGrace LiangFrandy ChuRebecca Wong, MBA and many others from CUHK to lead, organize and execute the program. Keep it going.

Great insights from my discussion today with Austin R. Bryan, #CLP and Fred Ngan #Bowtie in the #HKGCC forum on “Thriving in a Post-Covid Era Thru Innovation”. Thanks Victor Lam, Chairman of the Industry & Technology Committee of HKGCC, to host us & moderate the panel discussion. Austin & Fred were on Zoom and Victor & I were in HKGCC.

My key takeaways are:
1. Living with #Ambiguity becomes a new normal. We need to keep innovating in an uncomfortable environment.

2. Sense of #Urgency & lean startup thinking are crucial for innovation but most corporates do not have that.

3. Forget about innovation if we don’t have a clear #StrategicIntent. It could be for customer experience, market share or others.

4. #Culture & #Purpose are the keys to drive innovation instead of revenue & profit.

5. >90% of #Startups fail so always making #Survival as a sense of urgency & doing different things from existing players are very important. Same for #Intrapreneurship.

6. #Diversity of teammates with no domain experience is critical as it will bring out blind spots that are unseen by industry experts.

Thanks HKGCC Simon Ngan & teammates to organize the forum. Find out more about the “HKGCC Hong Kong Awards for Industries: #Innovation & #Creativity” here.

I am really pleased to join two innovation leaders and good friends Fred Ngan #Bowtie and Austin R. Bryan, #CLP to share our experience on #Innovation together in #HKGCC on Jul 8 afternoon.

It is one of the events of the “Innovation and Creativity” category of the Hong Kong Awards for Industries. The Awards is a premier business awards scheme championed by the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce #HKGCC #香港總商會 is the organiser of the “Innovation and Creativity” category.

Austin is a seasoned corporate leader and has pioneered many successful innovation projects. He will talk about “Can Iconic Companies (old) Innovate? Why do they try? What does it Mean to Innovate?”.

Fred is a serial entrepreneur and has founded a few great #InsurTech #startups. He will talk about “Winning through Digital Innovation”.

I have nurtured quite a few startups. I currently chair, advise and invest in a few emerging startups, and cultivate corporate leaders on #DigitalTransformation and #CorporateInnovation through my training and advisory roles. I will talk about “Digital Transformation: Opportunities and Challenges for Traditional Industries”.

#Insurance opportunities in the Greater Bay Area are tremendeous. To recognize the contribution of insurance companies to the growth of this emerging market, Hong Kong #MetroFinance #MetroRadio had presented a series of awards to the best insurers and talents yesterday. Find out more here:https://lnkd.in/gNT_uTj

Congratulations to all the winners. I was one of the judges there representing the #Innovation and #Technology industry. I was so pleased to present the following awards to #AIA HK – the winner of the Best InsurTech, Best Online Platform & Best Anti-Covid19 Contribution. Impressive! They set a great example on how to make use #BigData#AI & #Platform to create a personalized seemless experience for their customers. Influential leaders from the insurance industry shared their views on the opportunities and challenges in #GBA. Glad to meet two outstanding leaders of Hong Kong, Dr. Michael Chan 陳裕光博士 & JP Simon Wong 黃家和太平紳士. They were also judges of the awards.

Appreciate #MetroFinance #新城財經台 宋文禧先生, 魏美珍小姐, Alaric Chu 朱子昭 & teammates to organise this great awards. Our #InsurTech #entrepreneurs #startups will surely energize this growth further. Keep it going.

Another good news to the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Ecosystem. City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has launched its #HKTECH300. It aims to raise up to 300 start-ups in 3 years. They offer attractive 10K, 100K, 1,000K schemes to cultivate these emerging #startups.

Depending on stages of the startups, the beginning startups can start with 10K which basically includes a series of #entrepreneurship training. If the startups are more mature, they can go for a seed fund of 100K or an angel fund of 1,000K.

Are you qualified for this program? If one of the key members in your startup is a CityU alumnus or your project can make use of CityU’s #IP, you may apply for it. For exact eligibility, please refer to the link https://lnkd.in/gSHdQ7m .

I am so grateful to be a member of the vetting team (as EXCO of FHKI Startup Council) to help choose the best of the best to join the program, & provide mentorship & advice when appropriate. More importantly, I am so proud of my Alma Mater, CityU, where I earned my doctoral degree years ago. Thank you #CityU to empower me & many leaders in the #innovation and #technology industry.

Thanks, Ron KwokAdams C., Michael Yang, Thomas Chan, & many other professors & colleagues City University of Hong Kong to make this happen.

Hong Kong Productivity Council held its first “Future of Work & Tech Experience Day” yesterday. Excellent panel discussion on the future of work & talents moderated by Eliza Ng #HKPC. Panelists included Jeff Wong #LinkedInLancy Chui #ManpowerAda Ng #MicrosoftFlorence Chow #HKT and Karen F. HKPC. https://lnkd.in/gN8ntdk

The event also announced the results of “The Future of Work & Skills Survey” jointly conducted by HKPC & #QuokkaHR this year.

One key finding from the report is that the top five digital skills are #BigData#CloudComputing#ArtificialIntelligence#DigitalMarketing & #eCommerce. That is in line with what we have seen in the market.

Marius ChowDAVID Chung Tai-Wai and I were on the other panel to talk about a series of new training programmes to #reskill and #upskill Hong Kong talents on these required future skills in the digital age. These training programs are all supported and subsidized by government funding.

One of the new programmes that I designed together with HKPC is to empower Hong Kong #SMEs & #Startups to seize the emerging opportunities in #ASEAN markets such as #Vietnam#Indonesia#Thailand#Malaysia#Singapore, etc. Stay tuned.
