Once again, users at all levels across departments demonstrated that they can make good use of data to create real impact to their customers and companies. We witnessed it once more in the China Everbright Bank Hong Kong Branch #CEBHK today.

Colleagues from different front, middle and back offices at CEBHK have gone through our Data Literacy Empowerment Programme #DLEP organized by Hong Kong Institute of Bankers #HKIB and OpenCertHub Academy #OCHA in the last few months. This was the 2nd cohort already at CEBHK. They were required to do a team project to pick a pain point in the company and use data to tackle the problem.

Today, they presented their projects to the CEBHK’s senior management Nancy Wu, Stephen Chang, Fanny ChanCarrie Leung #HKIB, Dr. Victor Ng and myself from #OCHA. It was really impressive on not just the business impact created from their data initiatives but also the cross-team collaboration. Thank you so much for the team’s effort and the support from all senior management of CEBHK and Carrie.

In the last few months, Victor, Patrick Tsoi and I have provided a series of data literacy training, shared industry best practices, conducted hands-on workshops and provided mentorship for their team projects to the participants. We are so grateful to see that teams today can apply them so well in solving their real problems. From mindset, skillset to everyday use of data is our goal and we have seen this happening in CEBHK.

Special thanks to Fanny, Elaine and their teammates for their effort and trust to my team from the day 1 of our collaboration. Look forward to co-creating even more impact and values to CEBHK throughout our data literacy empowerment journey at CEBHK.

Appreciate Rico Lau from LAWSGROUP to introduce and show me and my teammates Andy KwokVictor Ng and Derek Leung from OpenCertHub Academy about the Group’s creativity in various areas. It has really opened our eyes on how a traditional apparel manufacturing leader has successfully transformed themselves and been making a huge impact to the community. Impressive.

LAWSGROUP has turned the traditional buildings in old district Lai Chi Kok into vibrant and popular shopping, dining and entertainment co-creation spaces called “D2 Place” https://lnkd.in/g3MUvnpi with young #enterpreneurs. It empowers many young innovators to test out their products, pivot and scale up to real shops. I can feel the passion from not only the enterpreneurs but also the young customers there. Thank you Rico to have shown us around. I am sure there are a lot more to explore in these spaces and it is still evolving. Really appreciate the team effort from Rico, Leslie FokMiko Cheung and many others from LAWSGROUP to revitalize these spaces, empower #entrepreneurship and made many impossible to possible.

Rico also brought us to the Laws Knitters Studio 羅氏針織工作室 which not only shows the history of knitting but also provides a co-creation space for designers and manufacturers.
Riding on their ecosystem creativity, knitting products now have many varieties as shown on the photos. It can be personalized as well.

When I saw the traditional “#Singer #勝家” sewing home machine, it triggered a lot of memories on how my mom made clothes for me by her own hands from scratch when I was young while the economy has not taken off. Thank you mom and thank you Laws Group to build this studio for our collective memory.

Rico and I exchanged many good ideas on #Innovation#DataLiteracy#MetaVerse#ESG#SocialImpact#Community #Cocreation, and more. Look forward to having even more collaboration with him and his teammates at LAWSGROUP in different areas in the Year of the Rabbit and beyond.

Grateful to have had chances to provide mentorship to so many #blockchain#web3#metaverse and #ESG innovators in today’s Hong Kong Digital Asset Society #HKDAS #Hackathon 2023 in Cyberport. I particularly appreciate these innovators’ heart and innovative minds to make use the emerging technologies to find new ways to solve tough problems and create deep social impact.

In the capacity of Industry Advisor of HKDAS together with Edmund Lee and Vincent So, and the Founding Chairman of Data Literacy Association #DALA, we act as mentors together with many experts for today’s hackathon. Thanks Fonia Wong 黃仰芳Alex AuCelia Lok and their teammates from HKDAS to have created such a great platform for us to co-create values in the web3 era. Glad to see Mrs Fanny Law, the former Chairman of HKSTP, there as well. Thanks to her continuous support and interest in our innovation and technology ecosystem.

Look forward to collaborating more with HKDAS to shape the future of the Digital Asset in Hong Kong.

Our CUHK EMBA team had a joyful lunch gathering today to kickoff the Year of the Rabbit. Really thankful and grateful to have the great support from our EMBA teammates behind the scene so that we can focus on teaching and sharing with our students, and our students can focus on learning.

In 2023, our CUHK EMBA programme marches forth into its 30th year. So many CUHK EMBA graduates have gone through the journey and become elite leaders in Hong Kong and the rest of the world. Really appreciate all our teammates behind the scene in the last 30 years to make this happen. Our current and past teammates all contributed a lot to the growth of not just CUHK but also Hong Kong. Let’s give them a big 👍. Thank you.

My first class in the Year of the Rabbit was a demo class for CUHK EMBA. Really felt warm to see so many knowledge seekers f2f in our classroom. Good thing was that we kept it a hybrid mode where hundreds attended it online in parallel. That is our new normal for the future so more people can learn together even though they are still working or back home with their families.

In my capacity of CUHK EMBA Associate Director and Founding Chairman of Data Literacy Association, I talked about “Stay ahead of Your Conpetition: Treat Data as Your 2nd Business Language”. My key message is that business leaders need to use data daily as how they use English and Chinese for effective and compelling communication. Data is the Voice of our Customers and it is business through data monetization. Business users need to not just be data literate but also treat it as your competitive edge. Own it yourselves instead of just getting help from IT and Data teams. Building a sustainable data culture and empowering every employee with high Data Literacy are the secret sauce of leading enterprises in today’s Digital Economy.

Thanks for my EMBA student Chris So to have shared his learning experience as well as Rendy Ng. Appreciate all participants to have joined our session last night. Thanks to my EMBA colleagues to organize it as well Professor Pong Yuen, Howard LamChun SoKen Lin and many others.

What a way to start the Year of the Rabbit with most of the bankers in Hong Kong! Thanks Hong Kong Institute of Bankers to organize such a great Spring Lunch 春茗 today in the Grand Hyatt Hotel. We used to have many CNY spring lunches or dinners in the banking industry but it was gone zero in the Covid period. We all enjoyed the f2f gathering again.

Appreciate the effort from Carrie LeungPhilip Kam and their teammates of #HKIB. Also, thanks to the great leadership from Mr David Kwok. Great to meet and have a chat with Legco Councillor (Financial Services) Hon Ronick Chan JP there as well.

As a strategic partner of HKIB on our Data Literacy Empowerment Programme or DLEP, we were so grateful to have a table there to host friends and partners of OpenCertHub Academy. Really feel warm to see many friends there and thanks for their presence in our table Kenny AuDoris TongBarry ChanJacob Wai, FRM, FFA FIPA, FCMA, CSDP, MHKCS, LLM, MBA鄭嘉泓, Sunny Cheung, Patrick KhongJack NGEdmund Lam and certainly my teammates Andy Kwok and Victor Ng. “Spring Dinner 春茗” is back. In our Chinese New Year #CNY tradition, companies will organize Spring Dinners to host their colleagues, close customers and partners, at the beginning of the lunar year. It aims to kick off a new year and welcome all their colleagues back to work after their CNY holiday. Unfortunately, because of the Covid, most of the companies haven’t done it for the last three years. In the Year of the Rabbit, most companies have started doing it. We are really pleased to have all these back.

Thanks 黃創安 of HairAgain 髮再生 Haspero 桂圓美 and Michael Wong of HairCoSys to invite me to join their Spring Dinner. We all had fun with professional artists and their colleagues to sing good songs, experience sharings, lucky draws, etc. Hong Kong local start-up, XOXO Beverages, was there to serve personalized cocktails to us. Their innovation was not just an ordering system. We can mix and match different ingredients for the cocktails ourselves through their app and a spider chart shows the result of the mix. And the robot makes it for you. That was the green drink in my photo with Mr. Wong. What an innovation! Thanks XOXO Beverages.

It is my first Spring Dinner in the Year of the Rabbit. I will have many more to come in the coming weeks. Good news is that we can see friends and partners f2f in great atmosphere. The bad news is that I have to be on a serious diet after all these to lose some weight after taken all these tasty food. Enjoy your Spring Dinners. I’ll see you in some of those.

Both Ivan Ng and I were grateful to be advisors of HairCoSys. It is so impactful and meaningful to use AI to add values to a very successful traditional leader like Hair Again. Let’s use #innovation and #technology to transform more incumbent companies to stay relevant in today’s digital age.

【虎盡甘來】在兔年的第一天,我祝福大家在兔年身體健康及萬事如意。大家齊齊努力及加油🥳💪😄🙏。
In the very first day of the Year of the Rabbit, I wish all of us have a healthy, happy and prosperous Year of the Rabbit after a difficult Year of the Tiger under the pandemic. Let’s do our best and add oil this year.

Grateful to have a chat with good friend Herbert Chia #車品覺 in my office. We are both enthusiastic and have like minds on data. Both of us have been in the data industry for many years and have been collaborating with lots of synergy.

We discussed plans for 2023 on how we can collaborate even closer to energize Hong Kong on data transformation from talents, data science to data literacy, data culture and data governance.

Herbert has formed the Hong Kong Data Club to empower more data experts and geeks while I founded Data Literacy Association to empower more business and operation leaders, professionals and executives to speak the language of data. We are perfectly synergetic and complementary to each other with a common goal to grow the data economy in Hong Kong.

Herbert has finished another great book called Data-driven Transformation with Allen Yeung. Thanks for giving me a copy with Herbert’s autograph. Both Andy Kwok and I learned a lot from Herbert’s previous books on data. This new one is in English. Lots of great and new inspiration there.

It was a very fruitful discussion. Stay tuned for our joint collaboration on empowering Hong Kong to be a data leader in 2023 and beyond.

In the meantime, we wish you a healthy, happy and successful Year of the Rabbit. Cheers.

Patrick S Lee and I conducted a workshop on “Emerging Tech and Business Model Innovation” to the award winners and top-ranked companies in our 2022 CUHK Corporate Innovation Index #CII.
https://lnkd.in/drExMCJM

Where did we start the idea to hold a corporate innovation index for Hong Kong? Well, Patrick and I had a dinner 2 years ago and explored this idea to help Hong Kong companies innovate better and more competitively in the digital economy. That was how the CII started. You can learn more about CII and the top-ranked companies here. https://lnkd.in/gNYaN-hm

Thanks for all the participants to play “Ping Pong” or table tennis with me. I believe effective learning is through active two-way discussion rather than just lecturing. Appreciate our participants were so proactive and engaging to express their views and open for new ideas in our class. That is why they are the best of the best in our CII. We also learnt a lot through our discussions. Thank you.

We also had joys and tasted the Australian big cherries together. Thanks to two of our participants Mandy and Leo. It was really tasty.

My final recommendation to them is to keep their innovative and open mindset and make it to be the culture of their entire company. That will sustain their leadership in the future unforeseeable disruption in the digital age.
