What a day to start our 1st GS1 HK IoT Industry Advisory Council (IAC) meeting! Today is the date that our HKSAR Government starts relaxing some preventive measures for the Covid. We can now have more choices and freedom to eat, exercise, massage, go to movies, meet up with friends, families and partners, and more.

I am so honoured and grateful to be the new Chairman of the IAC and have a chance to collaborate with two well-experienced Vice-Chairpersons Susanna Shen and Patrick Tsang. Special thanks to Anna Lin and her teammates Julian SinMignone ChengPhilip YK Choi, MBA and more for their great support.

We are so glad that our IoT IAC has great support from the industry. Thanks for Ir Dr Hon LO Wai-kwok, GBS, MH, JP, Member of the Legco Council (Functional Constituency – Engineering) to be one of our honourable advisors. In addition, thanks for the continuous support from Ir. Eric Chan#Cyberport, Dr. Crystal Fok#HKSTP and many other leaders and experts from the industry.

Established in 2013, the Hong Kong Internet of Things Industry Advisory Council brings like-minded companies under the auspices of GS1 Hong Kong together to promote IoT adoption in Hong Kong, uplift the competitiveness of local companies and create an IoT ecosystem in Hong Kong. More about our IAC can be found here https://lnkd.in/gZ3M-NrZ

In the coming years, we will focus on our 3 key pillars. Your contribution and support are welcome and highly appreciated.

1. Sharing of best practices on IoT and related technologies like AIoT, Big Data and Mobility

2. Talents cultivation in various effective formats for small to large companies and the young generation (both technical and business)

3. Policies and standards advisory to the government and professional organizations

In the meantime, enjoy the relaxed environment in Hong Kong with your friends and family. Do keep safe and healthy as well.

As a member of the GS1 HK’s IoT Industry Advisor Council, I am glad to join the 16th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao IoT Technology Application Summit co-organised by GS1 HK today in 3 locations, mainland, Hong Kong and #Macau, simultaneously.

Appreciate the effort from Anna LinCorinna FungJulian Sin#GS1HK, Kingsley Wong #OGCIOIvan Lam#ASTRI, 龍勝當 #澳門電腦學會,and certainly counterparts in Guangdong. Glad to see many industry experts there as well Andrew Lingwilson chongVincent SoIr Dr Venus LunHarman NgKinsen LeeBryan Peng(彭文俊)Alex Chung 鍾孝揚 and many others.

Great to see the collaboration across 3 regions on IoT applications on various industries. To make our Greater Bay Area or GBA work, we need smart money flow (FinTech and RegTech), smart logistics flow (AIOT) and certainly smart information flow (AI and Big Data). All these flows have to be protected by CyberSecurity and Blockchain.

Thanks for Anna’s leadership and her GS1HK team effort. Look forward to having more collaboration in these areas and contributing more in this alliance across the #GreaterBayArea#GBA in 2022 and beyond.

I am grateful to have Anna Lin #GS1HK as my guest in another episode of the #ToaSirDataTalk #ToaSir講數 series. Anna has been with #GS1 for 30 years and brought standards and rich experience to the #SupplyChain and #Retail industries in Hong Kong and the region.

We talked about how these industries have been making use of #data in the past 3 decades and the future decade. GS1 plays a vital role in #GlobalTrade#eCommerce and #O2O business. 6 billion GS1 #Barcodes scanned global daily. Data captured in these processes are very useful and powerful.

Anna pointed out that, from the beginning till now, #Digitization was important so everything could be easily managed and tracked in an effective and efficient ways. With processes and standards in place by using technologies like #RFID#IOT, the next important key step is #DataIntelligence. That is how to make good use of the captured data in our digitization phases to enhance our business, create values for customers and generate innovative business models.

What’s next? #SmartKiosk#AIOT#2DBarCode and more will further integrate data from supply chain and retail. Data analytics are the key. GS1 HK and #OpenCertHub shared the same vision. GS1 believes that a standardized barcode and further generation of the standard is the global language of business while OpenCertHub believes that data is the next business language apart from English and your local language.

Both organizations joined hands to launch a series of #BigData certification training to all levels of employees to strengthen their #DataLiteracy so that they unlock the value and power of the data generated in the supply chain and retail. We aim to #reskill and #upskill today’s leaders and workforce with the ability to analyze, communicate and argue with, storytelling about data, and most importantly making decision and taking actions based on data.

Thanks both #GS1HK and #OCH teams. Stay tuned on how to access my “Toa Sir Data talk” with Anna and other episodes in the series.
