#GBA (80+ million people in 11 cities of South China) and #ASEAN (650+ million people in 10 countries of SE Asia) are the two biggest and rapidly growing markets nearby Hong Kong. Enterprises, #SMEs and #Startups in Hong Kong are finding ways to seize these unprecedented opportunities for them.
Today, I was so grateful to have experts on GBA and ASEAN to share their experience in 2 consecutive forums. I moderated one forum on GBA in #SunLife in the morning and moderated another forum on ASEAN in #HKPC in the afternoon.
Appreciate King Leung #InvestHK, Peter Mok #HKSTP, Jennifer Tan #AntGroup, Keith Ip #SFExpress, Dick Fong and Thomson Ho #10Life to share their experience on the ecosystem collaboration in GBA.
Thanks Joseph Chan #AsiaPay, Stanley Sy CCRA #Sanomics, wun chi lam #Spaceship, Sunny Chau #HKTDC, Gary Lam #AsiaCEOCommunity and Sunny Chow from Leading Star Vietnam to share about their market entry strategy to ASEAN, consumer behaviors, partnership models and talents management for ASEAN markets.
Heartfelt thank to Clement Lam, Cynthia Sit, and Alice Chuck #SunLife, Karen F. Marius Chow #HKPC and my #CUHK teammates to make these 2 forums a successful learning opportunity for everyone.
I believe Hong Kong can reach another peak in the next 5 to 10 years by leveraging on #innovation, #entrepreneurship #intrapreneurship and #technology to capture the arising opportunities in GBA and ASEAN. Creating synergy through the collaboration of two regions is critical for our success. That is what I have been working on as well. Let’s add oil 大家加油!
“Make Something WOW” was the message on the wall behind Michael Yung and I. That was close to what we have talked about. How to make our customers #WOW by smart use of #data?
This was another episode of the #ToaSirDataTalk #ToaSir講數 series organized by #OpenCertHub #OCH. Michael is an veteran in the #TravelTech and #CustomerLoyalty industry. We discussed how to leverage on data in the #B2C and #B2B markets.
Michael has been using data to empower his company to understand their consumers and offer the most suitable products and services to them. Another key customer of this industry is merchants. Michael also makes use of data to help his merchants to design right products and campaigns to their customers. We also talked about the key roles of data in a #platform.
We have discussed how data are being used in the Travel and Customer Loyalty industry. Michael is also an expert in data security. He also shared how to do a proper data governance to protect their customers and his company. We also touched on the challenges and opportunities on cross-border data sharing and #cloud strategies on #BigData and #AI applications. Thank you Michael.
Stay tuned for #ToaSirDataTalk #ToaSir講數. Will share the way to access this series of mine shortly. You don’t want to miss the experience sharing from Michael and other corporate and digital leaders from key industries in #HongKong, Mainland #China Iin particular #GBA and #ASEAN.

Hong Kong Productivity Council held its first “Future of Work & Tech Experience Day” yesterday. Excellent panel discussion on the future of work & talents moderated by Eliza Ng #HKPC. Panelists included Jeff Wong #LinkedIn, Lancy Chui #Manpower, Ada Ng #Microsoft, Florence Chow #HKT and Karen F. HKPC. https://lnkd.in/gN8ntdk
The event also announced the results of “The Future of Work & Skills Survey” jointly conducted by HKPC & #QuokkaHR this year.
One key finding from the report is that the top five digital skills are #BigData, #CloudComputing, #ArtificialIntelligence, #DigitalMarketing & #eCommerce. That is in line with what we have seen in the market.
Marius Chow, DAVID Chung Tai-Wai and I were on the other panel to talk about a series of new training programmes to #reskill and #upskill Hong Kong talents on these required future skills in the digital age. These training programs are all supported and subsidized by government funding.
One of the new programmes that I designed together with HKPC is to empower Hong Kong #SMEs & #Startups to seize the emerging opportunities in #ASEAN markets such as #Vietnam, #Indonesia, #Thailand, #Malaysia, #Singapore, etc. Stay tuned.
More about HKPC Futue Skills initiatives:
It was a fruitful day in #Cyberport together with Rocky Cheng #BOCHK, Michael Leung #BOA, Dr Wendy Woon Ming LEE #AutoDesk and Justin Leung #YCP. We were in the vetting meeting to select #startups to join Cyberport #Incubation Programme #CIP.
Again, quite a few passionate and elite #entrepreneurs applied for the programme. Great innovations on #FinTech, #InsurTech, #AI, #EdTech, #HealthTech, #PropTech, #DigitalEntertainment, #LifeStyle, #SmartCity, etc. Impressive that a few of them have already had footprint or have their plan and ambition to go after #ASEAN and #GBA markets.
Thanks Cyberport’s team Eric Chan Alice So William Lau Steve Lam and many others for all their effort behind the scene. Keep it going and add oil.
We had lunch in the Interval/Farmacy restaurant in Cyberport. They served vegetables from #Farmacy which use technologies to provide farming at store. Thanks Raymond Mak for making it happened there. Tasty and healthy plus nice environment.
#ASEAN is the #NextBigThing for startups from #HongKong, #GreaterBayArea #GBA as well as #mainland #startups. ASEAN has close to 650 million people with growing number of middle class and millennials.
On one hand, the local startup ecosystems in ASEAN countries are heating up with rapidly-rising middle class, great government initiatives for tech startups, #VC and #CVC investors’ appetite on tech, certainly innovative #entrepreneurs and more. #GoJek and #Tokopedia from #Indonesia, #Lazada and #Razor from #Singapore, #Grab from #Malaysia #Singapore, #VNG from #Vietnam, just name a few. On the other hand, it has huge opportunities for startups from HK, GBA and mainland startups.
Join me to explore with entrepreneurs who have been working on their ventures in 5 major ASEAN countries including #Singapore #Malaysia #Indonesia #Thailand #Vietnam. Thanks for #HKPC Hong Kong Productivity Council to organize the forum.

I was staying in the 1st 5 stars hotel in Malaysia, Federal Kuala Lumpur, last week while Malaysia had some major changes in political leadership at the same time. However, the start-ups ecosystem there is still growing rapidly.
I have been bringing Hong Kong as well as #GreaterBayArea startups to the rapidly growing ASEAN through Malaysia. More enterprises are open up their doors for startups. In addition, investors from VC & CVC are heating up. The Central bank is preparing to grant a few VirtualBank licenses soon. And more FinTech FinancialInclusion.
