GS1 Hong Kong Summit 2022

Joined the GS1 Hong Kong Summit 2022 today in my capacity as the President of Internet of Things #IoT Industry Advisory Council https://lnkd.in/gZ3M-NrZ. Thanks for Anna Lin‘s invitation.

Really like the main theme “Enabling Growth through #IDD“. Guess what IDD means? We may recall the old memory of IDD which means the International Direct Dialing. IDD today means #Innovation, #Disruption and #DigitalTransformation. I learned a lot more about ESG, Digital Transformation, New Retail, Data Analytics, eCommerce, Trade Finance, and MetaVerse from many speakers and panelists like Rico Lau#Lawsgroup, Louis Mah#Maxims, Samuel lau#KerryLogistics, Anson Bailey (eMBA)#KPMG, Nelson Chow#HKMA, Sandy Tan#DBS, and many others today.

More importantly, met many good friends f2f whom we haven’t seen each other physically for the last 3 years. Really felt great and warm to see many bright entrepreneurs and leaders such as Dr. Michael Chan #CafeDeCoral, Lucia Cheung#HKIM, Danny Shum#Ztore#TVB, Keith Wu#Fulum, Crystal Pang#Pickups, Vincent SoHenry Yeung#RTIA.

I am also very happy to see my elite #CUHK#EMBA students like Vincent Wong, Edmund Chan, Mae Chen there. Really grateful that my students have started engaging more with the #innovation and #technology#ecosystem as I often encourage them to do more. Well done.

Thank you so much to May Chung, FACKM, Anna Lin, Mignone Cheng, Dr. Stephen Lam, Corinna Fung and many others from GS1 Hong Kong team #GS1HK to organize such a fruitful summit.

GS1 HK Solution Day & 11th Consumer Caring Scheme Presentation Ceremony

The first-ever GS1 HK Solution Day was successfully held today in HKPC. Really glad that it was a physical event. I have met many old friends #f2f FINALLY after the long Covid-19 period and made some new friends as well.

More than ten partners of GS1 were showing their practical solutions and many attendees participated the event. Great atmosphere and lots of chats. Thanks #GS1HK team.

In addition, it was also the 11th Consumer Caring Scheme Presentation Ceremony. I love the Chinese name #貼心企業嘉許典禮。I was grateful to represent GS1 on my capacity of President, IoT Industry Advisory Council, GS1 HK, to present awards for the winners in the Scheme.

Really learned a lot from Louis Mah, CIO of #Maxims, on Maxim’s digital tranformation and Sandy Tan, Head of Ecosystem, #DBS HK, on DBS’s data strategy. Glad to meet Samson Lam, Frandy Chu from #DSGEnergy and congrats on their Consumer Caring Scheme award. Enjoyed chats with Nelson Chow and Ming Chan #HKMA, my CityU DBA buddy Leo Yeung, my mentor Gregg L., my advising startup #Posify Koey Lee and many others.

Appreciate Anna Lin and her teammates Corinna Fung, Dr. Stephen Lam, Mignone Cheng, Philip YK Choi, MBA, Catherine Cheng and many others for their great effort to organize such a great solution day and gatherings.

Big thanks to all judges and assessors like Michael Leung, Stephen Lau, Dominic Siu, Herman Cheng, Jacob Wai 韋達人, LLM, MBA, FRM, FCMA, FwiSDP, CSDP, MHKCS, Brit Blakeney Anghelakis, Burton Cheng, Rosie Hampson, Pete Townsend, CK Wong, Betty Fung, Andy Tong, Wilson Pang, for their contribution. Appreciate #HKIB teammates led by Mr. David Kwok, Carrie Leung and Philip Kam for their leadership and professional management of the FinTech Award. Also thank for the great support from #OGCIO #HKMA #HKIB #HKSFC #Cyberport #HKSTP #ASTRI and other supporting organizations.

The good news for this year is that we are witnessing better and stronger teams year from year. Here are the 3 key highlights.

1. We had record high in terms of number of applications this year.

2. We had richer varieties of #FinTech innovations this year, such as #InsurTech, #RegTech, #Tokenization, #AI on HR in Financial Services.

3. We also appreciated more collaboration of FinTech #startups #entrepreneurs and financial services incumbents #leaders to #cocreate better customer experience, products and services, and innovate new business models. From competition to collaboration.

With this foundation and FinTech ecosystem that we have built for Hong Kong, plus initiatives like HKMA #FinTech2025 and #CDI, #GBA, #ESG, #InsuranceConnect, etc., We are expecting even better innovations coming in the next few years.

Congrats to all of you including myself and be grateful to be a part of the FinTech innovation journey for Hong Kong. Thank you.

(Hong Kong) HKICT Awards 2021 Experience Sharing Forum

To help the contestants better prepare for the #HKICTAwards FinTech Award, Hong Kong Institute of Bankers organized an  Experience Sharing Forum for them today. Thanks for #HKIB Carrie Leung Philip Kam & team’s effort.

We invited last year’s Gold Award winners, Miles Wen (温豪夫) #FanoLabs, Ken Shih #Aqumon, & Joyce Lau #HKFI. to share their experiences and journey. We also invited Dupty Chief Judges Michael Leung #BOA and Stephen Lau #HKCS, & Chief Assessors Dominic Siu #Prudential & Betty Chung #DahSingBank, to give advice to the contestants.

As the Chief Judge of 2021, I gave an opening speech on “Shaping the Future of FinTech Hong Kong”. In the last few years, we have together built a world class #FinTech hub in Hong Kong. FinTech entrepreneurs from nobody to today’s global FinTech leaders, like Simon Loong #WeLab, Fred Ngan #Bowtie, Tomas Holub #Covergo, Tim Lee #QFPay, Alvin Kwock #OneDegree & Miles Wen (温豪夫) #FanoLabs. Impressive! #HKMA, #SFC #HKIA #InvestHK #Cyberport #HKSTP together with incumbents #Citi #HSBC #HangSengBank #DBS #AMTD #BOCHK #AIA #Prudential, just name a few, also contributed significantly to the growth of HK FinTech industry.

Look forward to witnessing the innovations from this year’s contestants to shape the future of FinTech HK.

#Recover #Rebuild #Reborn (3Rs) was the main theme of 2021 #HongKongEconomicSummit. #CE Carrie Lam, #FS Paul Chan #HKMA Eddie Yu & #HKEX Laura Cha presented in the summit.

I was so grateful that every top leader from different industries presented in the summit talked about how companies from large to small have been using technologies to achieve these 3 Rs.

I was impressed by the guest speakers in the panel that I was moderating in the summit. They are more resilient & innovative than I thought. They have done a lot not just for their companies but also empowering many merchants and SMEs to overcome their challenges in the Covid-19 period. Ecosystem collaboration is the key for the 3Rs. (Hong Kong) Retailers, Industrialists, Bankers & Entrepreneurs Joining Hands to Bounce Back from the Covid-19

Industrialists, Bankers, Retailers & Entrepreneurs joined hands to share how to deal with and bounce back from the Coronavirus / Covid19. I joined 2 online forums as panel speakers today with the same theme i.e. how to bound back from the downturn due to the Pandemic. The 1st one focused on retailers while the 2nd one was on industrialists, startups & entrepreneurs.

I had a fruitful discussion with Chow Tai Fook’s Kent Wong & Quentin Wong and HKMA’s Dr. Victor Lee on the impact of AI, Platform, Gamification and more on the retail industry.  I also learned a lot from YaTa’s Susanna Wong, Fortress’ Clarice Au, and HKRMA’s Mary Suen.  Susanna made a great point. She said, “2 things that we must invest”.  1st is engagement with colleagues & 2nd is technology.  These investments were well justified & paid off as it helped them overcome this challenging period. The 3 leaders also shared about the unprecedented challenges on Logistics, Agility, Staff Skills, Customer Expectation & how to deal with them.  Excellent sharing.

I also had an insightful exchange with FHKI’s Dr. Daniel Yip, Startup Council’s Jason Chiu & Bryant Chan, and HSBC’s Daniel Chan on opportunities & challenges for startups & opportunities in HK, GBA, SEA & Reindustrialization. Stay tuned for the upcoming DemoFest.

Retail is being hit seriously by the Coronavirus outbreak.  CEOs and senior management of the leading retailers in Hong Kong, including Chow Tai Fook周大福, Fortress 豐澤, Yata 一田, and RetailTech and AI experts, will come together to discuss and share our experience on how retailers in Hong Kong and in fact worldwide to deal with these challenges under the pandemic from business and digital perspectives.
