Training: AI for Financial Services Course for ICBC (Asia)

Grateful to have Dr. Victor Ng to co-deliver our joint AI for Financial Services course to ICBC (Asia) at CUHK today. Really appreciate the full-day presence of Miss Gao, the Chairman and Executive Director of ICBC(Asia) together with their senior management. That was an excellent Lead-by-Example for all leaders. If you would like to cultivate and change your colleagues, you demonstrate it first. Really appreciate it, Miss Gao.

Dr. Ng and I have designed a Data Literacy Empowerment Programme #DLEP to empower all levels of colleagues in organizations to speak data. Today, I shared about how AI applies to financial services with real cases and examples worldwide while Dr. Ng cultivated the participants on data culture and mindset through experiential exercises. We have been doing it for many enterprises especially banks. What a practical combination to illustrate how leading enterprise is making good use of data to win the hearts of their customers. The most impressive and rewarding part for me and Dr. Ng was the sharing from our students about their findings and suggestions from their team exercises. After we have shared our experiences, our students not only digested the key points well, but also come up with solid suggestions to make changes in ICBC to empower their colleagues to be citizen data scientists and data citizens. More importantly, their own data mindset has changed and they appreciate even more to use data to solve problems. Thanks to all for your effort. (Hong Kong) “Power Duo of AI and Big Data” Training for ICBC Asia

I was impressed by #ICBC Asia in the way how their senior management took #AI, #BigData and #FinTech seriously. Usually, most of the senior leaders will only stay for 30 minutes of a training class and will excuse themselves from it. This time was very different.
All their top and senior management, including Chairman and Executive Director, actively participated in my AI and Big Data class. Guess what? They stayed till the very end of my class and actively participated in the whole day.

Really appreciate their leadership to demonstrate and lead by example. Their top management believe that continuous learning is the way to stay relevant and competitive in their financial services industry. By doing it themselves, it brings culture change to their colleagues.

My class today was on the Power Duo of AI and Big Data. It is a part of the Digital Leadership Series that I designed and led for the Asia Pacific Institute of Business #APIB of the #CUHK Business School.

I started my class today with a clear message to the ICBC team that they need to speak one more language on the top of Chinese and English in the digital economy. That is #Data. In order to be a #AIFirst and #DataDriven bank, everyone in the company has to have basic to advanced #DataLiteracy. Reskilling them on data is not an option but a necessity.

We then explained the AI and #MachineLearning technologies, business models and data monetization concepts to them. We also explored new AI applications in #FinancialServices and #DataGovernance with them. “Seeing Is Believing It”. I invited Patrick Tsoi, a veteran in #DataScience to use real data to demonstrate the power of Big Data in financial services. Thank you Patrick, ICBC team and CUHK team.

It is just a good start for the #DigitalTransformation for ICBC Asia. It is a journey and we are happy to contribute along with the team.

(Hong Kong) CUHK MiniMBA: “Emerging Tech & Business Innovation”

The key for success in the #DigitalEconomy is how we can empower enterprises & #startups to collaborate & get the most out of their cooperation or even coopetition. I have been contributing to this on different capacities in the innovation & technology ecosystem. Advisor, professor, mentor, judge of #hackathon & #competition, investors are some of the examples.

Today, I had another chance to do so through delivering a #CUHK #MiniMBA class on “Emerging Tech & Business Innovation”. More importantly, the participants came from both traditional enterprises and startups. This is a special design for our Mini-MBA in Innovative Leadership. Thanks for #HKSTP to bring a few elite startups from their #LEAP & #Incubation programmes like #beNovelty #Compathnion to join the class today. Also thank to large enterprises like #ICBC #CCB for their active participation today.

I was impressed by the chemistry of bringing these groups together in a class. The #diversity stimulated lots of great interaction. We have gone through concepts & cases on #Innovation, #BusinessModels #Reinvention, competitions from #DigitalDisruption, #Intrapreneurship.
