plus another 100+ posts. Isn’t that Amazing! Thankful & grateful to my family & all in my journey. What a memorable year!

It was the Friday night before the Christmas. People will usually go out shopping, gathering and having fun. Really appreciate the participants who came tonight to my talk to learn about digital transformation. I saw not only some new faces but also my #EMBA students who came with their other halves to learn together. Thanks Anita Chan, Cecilia, .. Impressive and encouraging.

Also thank those on Zoom like my DBA learning partner Fareeda Cassumbhoy. Hope all of you got some inspiration from my talk and at the same time enjoying your favorite wine at home in Friday night.

Today’s talk was a CUHK EMBA Sample class organized by our EMBA directors Pong Yuen, Howard LamChun So and their teammates. Thanks for their effort and the great learning attitude of our participants. Over 250 registrations for this session. Wow… we are back!

I asked every participant to drop down 3 words as tonight’s key takeaways. Words like #Data#Innovation#Customer#Urgency#Relevancy#Ecosystem#Platform, and more came out. I was impressed by how much they were inspired in only a little bit over 60 mins. Really appreciate their effort.

How about you? What are your three magic words on digital transformation?

Thank you to all and have a great weekend. Let’s get ready to celebrate Christmas Eve next week.

#ASTRI 應科院 is one of the major pillars for Hong Kong #Innovation and #Technology #ecosystem. They have been empowering many tech companies, #startups and large enterprises and SMEs on applying technologies to solve problems from #FinTech to #MetaVerse, from #Cybersecurity to #IC. I am grateful to sit down with Dr. Denis Yip 葉成輝, the CEO of ASTRI, to talk about his vision on the tech industry in #GBA and how Hong Kong can seize the emerging opportunities. I also learnt from Denis how he is leading ASTRI to empower Hong Kong companies and startups to leverage on their technologies and IPs to further develop their products and services. We talked about many other interesting points and I really enjoyed our conversation. Denis is a leader with great vision and wisdom in particular on tech #talent cultivation. ASTRI not only has experienced researchers and technologists in house, but also trained so many talents who are now great entrepreneurs running their own startups. Dennis talked about ASTRI in fact is like a Kung Fu training school #ShaolinTemple #少林寺。 He is planning to build a strong alumni network so that they can continue to collaborate. It is also a good timing to attract and recruit Hong Kong citizens with tech background, who are now in foreign countries, to be back and work in Hong Kong. Appreciate Denis to share his valuable experience with me and our on-site and online audiences. A big thank to Professor Andrew Chan Veronica Li Dicky Shek Amy Mak and many teammates from #GBABusinessSchool and Phoebe Yip 劉泇妍Chrysanthi.l. and many teammates from ASTRI to make this forum a success.

I had a joyful and meaningful evening with my City University of Hong Kong (CityU) Doctor of Business Adminstration (DBA) alumni and learning partners from cohort 2006 to 2021. I shared my experience to prepare, write and publish a business case on a global basis.

I am so grateful that I have successfully published my case for #HSBC in the world’s largest business case publisher – Ivey Publishing. The case is now globally accessible by all major business schools worldwide through #Ivey Publishing and #Harvard Business Publishing networks.

The topic of my case is – HSBC: Embracing Open Innovation for SMEs. Please find out more here https://lnkd.in/eYUHfTFp. Thank you so much for HSBC teams, my mentor Professor Hubert Pun and many others to fully support this case and make this dream of mine realized.

My drive to share my experience with my fellow DBA friends was that I would like to encourage them to write more cases so that our valuable experience from Hong Kong can be shared with our new generations as well as all executives worldwide.

We do not have enough local cases for our next generation to learn from. Also, not too many leaders in other countries know our Hong Kong best practices and stories. If every DBA, not just DBA from CityU but also PolyU, HKUST, etc. writes a case, we will have hundreds of cases known to the world in a few years. Let’s action, learning partners.

Appreciate all my learning partners joined my sharing session on site and online tonight. We should do more and I will be the audiences of yours next. Thanks Queenie from CityU and Candi from my team to make all arrangements.

Congrats to #AECOM Hong Kong to successfully launch its 1st #FastTrack #CityHack #Hackathon. It is the first stop of the AECOM’s hackathon series in Asia. Hong Kong is proud to be the first location showcasing how innovation empowers a smart city.

The AECOM’s #FastTrackCityHack is a two and a half days in-person hackathon and competition on December 3 – 5, 2021. It aims to inspire and drive the development of practicable, forward-looking solutions for a better urban future. It has 3 main streams for the participants to innovate for a #SmartCity#Resilience#CarbonZero and #DigitalEcosystem. Hundreds of students and entrepreneurs joined the hackathons and selected ones are now working hard in AECOM’s office to compete for the award.

Thanks Thomson Lai AECOM’s Asia Digital Leader for inviting me as a keynote speaker to get the passionate participants even more inspired for the hackathon. I chose the topic – “#Entrepreneurs: From Good to Great”. The participants are all good entrepreneurs already but what could differentiate them from good to great entrepreneurs. Solving the right problems right is the key. Appreciate #AECOMHK organizing such an impactful hackathon for Hong Kong and the great support from Madison Wai of Hill+Knowlton Strategies.

In the last 2 weeks, I am really grateful to contribute in different industries and professions, from #Engineering#Accounting#HR#ProjectManagement#Design, to #Banking#Insurance#SupplyChain and #Education, on how #innovation and #technologies or I&T made a difference. Our momentum on I&T in Hong Kong is unprecedented. Let’s transform #FromGoodToGreat. Keep it going!

The East Meets The West. Our #CUHKEMBA fellow students really experienced it in the last few weekends. Morning on digital and afternoon on Chinese wisdom.

I taught about corporate innovation and digital strategy. Most of today’s digital innovation and strategy wisdom and experience were rooted mainly from the US. Professor Sin #冼日明 taught about traditional Chinese wisdom #易經 that was originated from China. That’s the best of Hong Kong where we can make use of the best wisdom of both worlds. We have been doing our best to bring out the synergistic power of the East and the West.

Thanks for Professor Andrew Chan and Pong Yuen, Howard Lam of #CUHK #CUHKEMBA CUHK Business School CUHK EMBA to make these happened from the very beginning till now.

More details about the classes just over the last few weekends can be found here. Hope to see you soon in our classes and/or other occasions in our ecosystem.

#GBA (80+ million people in 11 cities of South China) and #ASEAN (650+ million people in 10 countries of SE Asia) are the two biggest and rapidly growing markets nearby Hong Kong. Enterprises, #SMEs and #Startups in Hong Kong are finding ways to seize these unprecedented opportunities for them.

Today, I was so grateful to have experts on GBA and ASEAN to share their experience in 2 consecutive forums. I moderated one forum on GBA in #SunLife in the morning and moderated another forum on ASEAN in #HKPC in the afternoon.

The Hong Kong Corporate Innovation Index programme #HKCII co-organized by #CUHK and #HKGCC with the support from key industry leaders has been progressing well. We have invited leaders in town to join our pilot study yesterday. More background of the #CorporateInnovationIndex:
https://lnkd.in/giJKk2Au
https://lnkd.in/geP2TCCw

The pilot study aimed to collect feedback from the leaders on the design of our survey which is going to send to hundreds of companies to study their innovation. The preliminary design of the survey was a result from our literature review and direct consultation sessions and focus groups with close to 50 large to small companies. Really thank to the inputs from these participated leaders and executives.

Apart from the discussion with the guests yesterday on the survey design, we also invited Ir. Andrew Young #SinoGroup to share his corporate innovation experience. We had Watson Chan #HKGCC and Professor WM Cheung gave opening speeches. In addition, we had a panel discussion with #startup, well-established enterprise and #SME including Andy Ann #NDN, Horace Chu #Gammon and Mandy Chan #Frutodor. Appreciate for all their valuable sharings.

What’s the next? We will continue to collect feedback from leaders, practitioners and researchers to revise our survey design and finalize the constructs and measures of the survey. Stay tuned!

Big thank to our guests, friends and partners who joined our pilot study yesterday. Eunice Chan Anson Bailey (eMBA) Peter Chan Chris Au Young Teddy Liu Eugene Hsia Chris So Matthew Chan Janssen Chan FCPA (Aust.) Patrick S Lee Dominic Chan and many others. Appreciate the effort and support from our CUHK #APIB and HKGCC teammates.

The #CPA Conference 2021: Transcending Together. Grateful to see that #HKiCPA Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants has successfully organized their #f2f annual conference today.

It was not easy for sure as we were still having lots of challenges under the Covid-19. Thanks for the leadership from Raymond Chung Ching Cheng, President of the HKiCPA, and his teammates like Rosalind Lee, Horace Ma, Jonathan Ng to organize this event and invited me to be one of the panel speakers. Over 200 members joined this inspiring event. Congratulations.

The conference invited great speakers to share their experience. We really learned a lot from Kenny Sham from #LEGO as well as many others like Edwin Morris from #JebsenTeddy Liu. I was impressed how they innovated in the pandemic period. Kenny said that the traffic was dropped from 3,000+ visitors per shop daily down to 3. If you were LEGO, what were you going to do apart from scaling down, cutting cost, etc. They didn’t.

LEGO launched a number of innovative programs like Lego Brick at Home, Cross Girl Virtual Pop-up Store (AR), etc. They performed great in terms of not only sales but also customer engagement, branding, sustainability and staff loyalty. In essence, truly understanding the pains of different customer segments in the pandemic and being able to solve these problems using #innovation and #technology, and the established trust among colleagues made the difference.

I was in another panel on digital transformation. We had experts from the #Accounting and #Finance industry and certainly #DigitalTransformation, including Andrew Lee #EYDickman Chiu from #Bitmex, Michael Chan #Vis and Jeffrey Chan #GrantThornton. We agreed that change management, culture, purpose, collaboration and most importantly people are the key for success in digital transformation.

My final recommendation for the audiences was, rather than worrying about #AI may replace some of their jobs, to proactively #upskill themselves, especially on their #DataLiteracy and empower their companies to transform. In the context of this change, both the company and the finance people will have a chance to learn from the journey especially unleashing the power of #data and monetizing data. That experience will benefit not only the company but also the employees for better career options in the #DigitalEconomy.

Great to meet old and new friends there too Venus Tang (鄧麗華) Francis Fong Mandict Wong Johnson Kong and many others.
