Thank you for CTGoodJobs, the judges like Jeff Tam Virginia Choi JP and the crew behind the scene. Appreciate Vivienne Wong #HKET and her CTGoodJobs teammates Reo Lam Christine C. Cyrus Chow and more to organize such an inspiring and encouraging Awards for all of us. Well done.

I was grateful to be invited as a keynote speaker of the ceremony. According to a recent #WEF report, in the digitally transformed world, more than 1 billion people need to be upskilled by 2030. HR plays a pivotal role to make it happen. I shared my experience on empowering and upskilling talents on data literacy as it is one of the top Future Skills that every one of us needs to be good at. If you have missed my sharing session or you were there but want to review my key points, please feel free to download my deck here.

The #CPA Conference 2021: Transcending Together. Grateful to see that #HKiCPA Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants has successfully organized their #f2f annual conference today.

It was not easy for sure as we were still having lots of challenges under the Covid-19. Thanks for the leadership from Raymond Chung Ching Cheng, President of the HKiCPA, and his teammates like Rosalind Lee, Horace Ma, Jonathan Ng to organize this event and invited me to be one of the panel speakers. Over 200 members joined this inspiring event. Congratulations.

The conference invited great speakers to share their experience. We really learned a lot from Kenny Sham from #LEGO as well as many others like Edwin Morris from #JebsenTeddy Liu. I was impressed how they innovated in the pandemic period. Kenny said that the traffic was dropped from 3,000+ visitors per shop daily down to 3. If you were LEGO, what were you going to do apart from scaling down, cutting cost, etc. They didn’t.

LEGO launched a number of innovative programs like Lego Brick at Home, Cross Girl Virtual Pop-up Store (AR), etc. They performed great in terms of not only sales but also customer engagement, branding, sustainability and staff loyalty. In essence, truly understanding the pains of different customer segments in the pandemic and being able to solve these problems using #innovation and #technology, and the established trust among colleagues made the difference.

I was in another panel on digital transformation. We had experts from the #Accounting and #Finance industry and certainly #DigitalTransformation, including Andrew Lee #EYDickman Chiu from #Bitmex, Michael Chan #Vis and Jeffrey Chan #GrantThornton. We agreed that change management, culture, purpose, collaboration and most importantly people are the key for success in digital transformation.

My final recommendation for the audiences was, rather than worrying about #AI may replace some of their jobs, to proactively #upskill themselves, especially on their #DataLiteracy and empower their companies to transform. In the context of this change, both the company and the finance people will have a chance to learn from the journey especially unleashing the power of #data and monetizing data. That experience will benefit not only the company but also the employees for better career options in the #DigitalEconomy.

Great to meet old and new friends there too Venus Tang (鄧麗華) Francis Fong Mandict Wong Johnson Kong and many others.

I am grateful to have Anna Lin #GS1HK as my guest in another episode of the #ToaSirDataTalk #ToaSir講數 series. Anna has been with #GS1 for 30 years and brought standards and rich experience to the #SupplyChain and #Retail industries in Hong Kong and the region.

We talked about how these industries have been making use of #data in the past 3 decades and the future decade. GS1 plays a vital role in #GlobalTrade#eCommerce and #O2O business. 6 billion GS1 #Barcodes scanned global daily. Data captured in these processes are very useful and powerful.

Anna pointed out that, from the beginning till now, #Digitization was important so everything could be easily managed and tracked in an effective and efficient ways. With processes and standards in place by using technologies like #RFID#IOT, the next important key step is #DataIntelligence. That is how to make good use of the captured data in our digitization phases to enhance our business, create values for customers and generate innovative business models.

What’s next? #SmartKiosk#AIOT#2DBarCode and more will further integrate data from supply chain and retail. Data analytics are the key. GS1 HK and #OpenCertHub shared the same vision. GS1 believes that a standardized barcode and further generation of the standard is the global language of business while OpenCertHub believes that data is the next business language apart from English and your local language.

Both organizations joined hands to launch a series of #BigData certification training to all levels of employees to strengthen their #DataLiteracy so that they unlock the value and power of the data generated in the supply chain and retail. We aim to #reskill and #upskill today’s leaders and workforce with the ability to analyze, communicate and argue with, storytelling about data, and most importantly making decision and taking actions based on data.

Thanks both #GS1HK and #OCH teams. Stay tuned on how to access my “Toa Sir Data talk” with Anna and other episodes in the series.

Hong Kong Productivity Council held its first “Future of Work & Tech Experience Day” yesterday. Excellent panel discussion on the future of work & talents moderated by Eliza Ng #HKPC. Panelists included Jeff Wong #LinkedInLancy Chui #ManpowerAda Ng #MicrosoftFlorence Chow #HKT and Karen F. HKPC. https://lnkd.in/gN8ntdk

The event also announced the results of “The Future of Work & Skills Survey” jointly conducted by HKPC & #QuokkaHR this year.

One key finding from the report is that the top five digital skills are #BigData#CloudComputing#ArtificialIntelligence#DigitalMarketing & #eCommerce. That is in line with what we have seen in the market.

Marius ChowDAVID Chung Tai-Wai and I were on the other panel to talk about a series of new training programmes to #reskill and #upskill Hong Kong talents on these required future skills in the digital age. These training programs are all supported and subsidized by government funding.

One of the new programmes that I designed together with HKPC is to empower Hong Kong #SMEs & #Startups to seize the emerging opportunities in #ASEAN markets such as #Vietnam#Indonesia#Thailand#Malaysia#Singapore, etc. Stay tuned.

Several key drivers of data innovation & culture for their organizations were in my f2f offline panel yesterday. Heartfelt thank to Edwin Hui #AccentureBessie Chong #EsquelSusanna Chiu #BonjourMaggie Yung #DBS.

#DataLiteracy
Here are my key takeaways:

1. The mindset of the top management on the urgency of empowering every employee is critical for #DigitalTransformation. DBS has trained >50% of their employees on data literacy with their CEO’s support.

2. AI not just automates our tasks but also releases us from tedious & dangerous tasks. Manufacturers like Esquel has made use of #data & #AI to make their staff happier, healthier & more efficient.

3. Start with the colleagues in key departments who are more reluctant to change & help them solve their problems using data. It will drive the company to become data driven.

4. Not just training is needed but also internal competition, collaboration with external #ecosystem, mixing colleagues from different units #Squad to do data projects, recognition, are important for culture & mindset change.

5. #Reskill & #Upskill colleagues on data literacy should be on the top priority for #HR to empower their colleagues in the #DigitalEconomy.

Thanks Catherine Chan #Kornerstone Andy Kwok #OpenCertHub to organize the forum.

“Every leader needs to be a #DigitalLeader in the #DigitalEconomy.” #Digital is not just an enabler for business but also a #GameChanger for almost all industries. To stay competitive and relevant, every executive and professional need to #reskill and #upskill on their digital leadership instead of leaving it to just #IT colleagues.

A team of well-experienced digital practitioners, innovative entrepreneurs & I, together with my #CUHK teammates, have designed a “Digital Leadership Series for Executives” programme to empower today’s leaders from traditional industries with digital #Mindset#Capability & #DigitalWorkforce management.

The series include 8 two-day modules with lectures, cases, discussions, guests sharing & hands-on workshops. Participants can take one to all of these modules. Topic ranges from #DesignThinking #DigitalMarketing #CustomerEngagement #CorporateInnovation #Entrepreneurship #Agile Development #AI #BigData #Blockchain #Platform.

Good news is that most of these modules are eligible for the #RTTP https://lnkd.in/gwwfXHT funding from the government.

#BillGates said, “Banking is necessary, banks are not”. Have we thought about “Accounting is necessary, accountants are not”?

#Accounting#Auditing and #Finance professionals are used to have a peace of mind in earning secured income and having great prosperity. However, another #NewNORMAL has come to them in this decade and they have to respond well to keep flourishing for their career.

While these professions are still very important to us, many of them are in high risks of losing their jobs to #AI and #BigData in this decade.

According to PWC, 30% of our current jobs will be automated by AI by 2030. Accounting and Finance is ranked as the top tier of the list. How should the professionals and students in the profession prepare themselves for this tsunami? The answer is #DataLiteracy.

On behalf of #OpenCertHub, I will share our view on this hot topic together with #EY and #Kornerstone in Shanghai on Jan 14, 2021. Thanks to the support from Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. If you are interested, just scan the QR code below or contact #HKiCPA #HongKong or #Shanghai for more information.
